Carter is just fine and jammin out this year. I'm all for whatever he does

I'm not salty. You presented a cover. I provided critique. Not simply a "awe that's great" critique but advice you could use to grow as a musician. Nothing I said was put out in an aggressive or mean tone, so don't get defensive.

Why is your snare drum like a foot below your waist? I would never be able play like that.

The lack of variety in the acoustic sets has been the biggest dissapointment of 2014. I was expecting to hear songs like DDTW, OSW, Jimi, Seek up, LITHOG acoustic.. Instead its been the same few on loop.

Agreed. Hence my username, you can tell I am a big fan of the acoustic arrangements.

I liked the fact it was stripped down, smaller and more intimate. The band seemed to really dig this set-up.

However, it's as if they didnt really trust their own boundaries and stuck with a pretty consistent rotation.

Maybe if they use this set-up more frequently in the future, we'll see more variety and risk taking.

Risk taking...this tour was a risk that Dave even said in an interview before the tour started. The hype, expectations and possibilities were endless. I enjoyed the two shows i went to but this tour thus far has not lead up to my expectations & i think that im not in the minority in with what im reading on these boards.

The possibilities that could have happened on this tour and didnt is such a let down. Not only, did we all expect other songs in the acoustic rotation such as jimi, seek up, you & me, diggin a ditch, granny, mercy (which i really wanted), if only...i could go on forever, but there hasnt been much variation from
songs that are played acoustically then electric. That really sucks. If the band keeps this format, are we never goin to hear bartender electric for quite sometime? Plus, the fact we should be hearing 2 full sets is alet down. We should be getting two 80-90 minute sets each night & thats not the case.

I guess my complaint is that with a tour with all the hype around it & the band taking a huge risk it has been a somewhat dissappointing. I say somewhat because i did have a good time at the shows i attended & i will always continue to go to shows no matter what. I love this band & no matter how i think it could be better im always going to go. I think most of us are that way too.

It's surprising to me that more "quiet" songs aren't being seen in the acoustic set, i.e. Satellite, Proudest Monkey, If Only, Mercy, etc.

But you may be right, Carter is "fine". Certainly not the "great" he once was. If he applied half of the creativity he had with his old style of playing to the acoustic format, it might be interesting.

Carter from 1992-2007 has inspired my drumming more than any other musician, and although I prefer his old style, he's still amazing with what he does now and his skill is far from dwindling.
Totally agree with rushian. And carter skill hasn't dwindled by this creativity has and even tho he's always played real "showy" I think the last tour it was just too much especially on grey street. The band without butch is a shell of what they were.

The reason Carter and Butch were so beautiful together is because they're both percussionists.

    Re: Acoustic Set Discussion

I thought the acoustic sets at Berkeley were incredible, and had several surprises. The month off with no set list watching helped that quite a bit. OSW, Crush D&T, Stay or Leave opener, Typical, FTWII, ODH, and Crash (which I forgot had moved to the first set) all had big time surpise factor for me.

Plus, the band sounded insanely good in that setting. Tim was playing some of the best fills and accompaniment that I've heard him play. One Sweet World really stood out, the entire second half of the song he was playing really great lines. There were quite a few songs that you knew you were going to hear, but I was happy to hear them with how great they sounded. Would have really liked to see Jimi in the accoustic set, and maybe DIDO, WIA, and 41 as well.

I would love to see a full acoustic tour. Any two of the three Berekely acoustic sets plus an encore is a show I would pay to see any night.

My math was off above, calculated 25 shows instead of 37.

So WWYS actually closed 43% of shows and Bartender opened 30% of shows.

    That's more accurate.

manage your expectations. you will enjoy shows more. expect to go see some enjoyable music. the band owes you nothing but a show, not an amazing spectacular show but just a show. quit over thinking this stuff, it is not life and death, its just a good time. let go
