Songs the band hates but still plays?

Im curious. Are there songs that the band continues to play even though they dont like playing that song? Would there ever be a "Ah fuck, I guess we'll play this song", coming from one of the band members?

I don't think any. To be honest, Dave just does not play songs he doesn't like.

I do remember LeRoi hated #41 and they played it a lot anyway. That was on the Storytellers.

I can't remember where but I think I remember an interview with Stefan where he mentioned some songs were "harder to get up for" or "excited about" and included Satellite in that category.

At Bristow, in 2009, after playing I'll Back You Up, Dave said "That was a song Roi always loved. Now here's one he hated." And then played #41.

Haha so far, nothing has been established in this thread. I'd never heard of Dave or Roi not liking #41, and can't believe they would. The Pig thing was back in '03 I believe? I think Dave was just being stubborn and didn't want to play it because everyone kept bringing pig stuffed animals to shows and stuff like that. He used to be like that with Halloween also(albeit, he was smoking at the time, and Halloween would always wreck havoc on his voice.)

Last stop and Halloween are the two most overrated DmB songs in history. Probably why Dave doesn't play them often. The only reason fans go bonkers for them is cause they are rare. The year where they played Halloween multiple times, nobody gave a shit. People want what they can't have.

As far as the question... Probably no songs. They have a shit load to choose from and they have no reason to play songs they don't like.

I guess I could have worded it differently. I'm saying Dave doesn't wanna play it cause he probably doesn't like it. Both Halloween and last stop have always felt like someone else's songs. Not really his style. Maybe he wrote them on drugs or drunk as hell? Idk just speculating like we all are. But, personally I think the songs are overrated to hell. If they played them all the time, people would pick the next rarest song and beg for it.

Yea. People want songs just because they're rare. That's why you see all the signs for Smooth Rider and hear all the chants for Stand Up and Angel.

Halloween isn't even that rare anymore.

Yeah. It was pretty loud. I was in the pit and he clearly said "noo" while shaking his head. Very apparent he was annoyed and there wasn't a snowballs chance in Hades we were going to get Last Stop.

That's fine. I just think most people disagree and think they are great songs, and that's why they want to hear them. Those two more than other rare songs, because they're also classic DMB songs. The other great songs sitting in the liberation list are newer (but do still get clamored for.)

As to the part about if they got played all the time, people would stop clamoring for them, yea that's true. But that makes sense. You don't need to clamor for a song that gets played all the time. It'd be like starting a Grey Street chant.
