There's some guy out there that argues vehemently that unless you agree 100% with their politics, you can't be a true fan of the Band. He has also specifically said that if you voted for Donald Trump, it's impossible that you "get" their music.

That mentality is elitist and hypocritical, and I can't stand it. That guy was so annoying.

And I also would like to this interview focus more on Dave's career. I know his political views. He keeps them no secret. And it's also no secret that Stephen Colbert will see Dave as a "Brother In Arms", and use this as an opportunity to mock Trump. It's what he does. Even if it doesn't take up the entire interview, something disrespectful will be said in order to garner laughter.

Really? Those are the comparisons that you came up with because I said that the tradition of the Office should be respected by Americans? Oh, I get it. Because Donald Trump is a rapist racist dictator.

Anyways... I made my point perfectly clear. There is a difference between questioning someone's character and straight up being disrespectfully lewd. And calling the President of the United states a "cock holster for Putin" on national television with millions of people watching is tactless, vile and, frankly, hypocritical (considering how the same people saying things like that would be up in arms over a similar comment made about a democrat president). And it doesn't matter who the President is. Democrat or Republican. Donald Trump or Bill Cosby. If they were fairly elected by the American people, then they are the President of the United States.

That is the point I'm making. Nobody is trying to tell anyone not to have an opinion.

true. i love tons of songs by artists that i know nothing about. but in his defense, you follow the band on a message board, go to shows, buy his catalog, follow stefans twitter apparently, etc., which is a little more than being a fan of their message. i'm not sure what that means though. daves message seems to be to take care of one another and trumps is take care of yourself by being super rich and able to afford it all, possibly by being born lucky.

when the guys band you love that much, you completely disagree with politically, yet he oftens sings about that, it is kind of odd. not that it is impossible. some people dont even listen to the lyrics people sing in songs they like.

I listen to dmb for the music and the lyrics. It has been part of a soundtrack for my life over twenty years, in the best and very worst of times. Lyrically if viewed songs differently in my life but never really view them in a political sense, that's my interpretation. I don't agree with Dave's politics and notice it's done more so outside the band. I simply ignore that aspect. I enjoy dmb for the music. My only hope is that he doesn't become douchey and annoying. If you dont think that can happen just see what Bono and Vedder have become.

I love dmb. Could care less about comedians. Frankly, because I love music. But I just so happen to love music inspired by politics, hence, dave matthews and the band that has become. But here is what bothers me. I used to listen to the 1999 bootleg cds and there was a lot of political banter in these dave and Tim shows and I loved it. But it wasn't so bold and oblique towards the opposition. It's ok to disagree with someone else's views but do t slander and curse them. That makes you seem irrelevant to the bigger picture. We have the RIGHT to express our opinions which some people in the world can't do. But be positive as your words suggest and not so hateful. Here is an example lyrically, don't preach that love is all you need, but then give no love to a party that is somply the opposite of your beliefs. Allow room for dialogue and improvement. That's what I loved about dave in the early days. He wasn't so bold, but spoke more metaphorically to his opinions than he is now. Still love the music, just do t sell out. Isn't the guy from Cuba he sings with promoted by his government? I could be way off
