Re: Bonnaroo 2015: I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

We are hoping to be able to make our camp as shaded and sun proof as possible. I know its gonna be hot no matter what we do, but hopefully we can minimalize it as much as possible.

I've been told everyone his awake by 9 regardless of how hard you try to sleep because of the heat and noise of everyone else.

Are ear plugs worth bringing?

this is bonnaroo #9 for me and with this year's lineup not really having anyone i MUST SEE NOW i decided to try volunteering just to have a bit of a different experience this time around. i do have a couple friends who have done it before and are doing it again this year, and thankfully the organizers were nice enough to put us in the same crew and so we should be working together in some capacity.

as others have said - pacing is key, and you will be up earlier than you ever want to be because of the heat. i'm one of those who likes to stay out as late as possible, wandering from tent to tent until there's nothing else going on then heading back to camp, and so i end up getting little sleep - 4hrs if i'm lucky, with a quick nap or two as i relax on the grass during daytime shows. so really, if you want to maximize your time, i strongly suggest drinking a lot of water and not partying too hard while monitoring your booze/drugs intake. my first year i missed the dead performance because i was so drunk and stoned i couldn't get my own ass coordinated enough to get to the what stage.

and yes, gold bond 4 life.

regarding camp setup, be prepared to move as quick as possible once your car gets parked and get your tent/shade spread out to take up as much space as possible. the space you get is precious. one year me and the lady got stuck between a group of 12 on one side and 8 on the other, and we got about half the space we should have because they were able to take up so much before we could get our stuff set up.

yes it's good to own land at bonnaroo.

a few years back my buddy and i jumped out of the car and started doing snow angels in the grass like idiots to take up space. most people are respectful and know the boundaries, others don't give a shit and you're on your own.

also helps to befriend your camp neighbors.

    powder

also get lycra type boxer shorts

edit: cotton will get soaked. lycra pushes away sweat better.

your grundle region will feel like the ohio river after a few hours of being on the farm.

beat up pair of comfy kicks.

you're standing and walking for hours on end, socks and shoes help.

i wore flip flops like an idiot thursday night last year thinking it was going to be a chill night. ended up being a moshpit at ty segall performance and lost a toe nail. my feet were constantly getting trampled on, felt like fred flintstone by the time i was able to get out of there

Will be my first MMJ Bonnaroo performance I've missed since 2004. Sad to not be able to make it. I still remember that 2006 late night show. Wow.

Does anyone have experience selling Roo tix on Stubhub? Turns out I'm not going to be able to make it after all.

If anyone has interest on here I'd prob be willing to sell under face.

Went to the first 3 years, haven't been back since. Was really turned off by the corporate sponsorship over the years, and the general change in the festival (especially the type of bands). Not knocking it at all, best 3 weekends of my life were my 3 trips to the Roo, just moved to other fests. Curious what the atmosphere is like these days? Extremely late nights? I saw the Flaming Lips hit a tent at like 2am one year, lol. Still pretty lenient as far as extracurricular activities? Ticket costs?

Enjoy your trip everyone that is going!

you quit after 3 years? what corporate shit was there in 2004? i don't remember any. there's certainly been a lot more since then, what with a lot of centeroo activites like the mlb experience, adult swim corner, and the garnier fructis stuff among many others, but i'd hardly call those infant years having a lot of corporate schilling. and unlike most other major festivals, the stages and tents still don't have corporate names attached to them. the bands playing certainly have changed, and it is far more mainstream now more than ever, so that's a legit complaint if you're looking for a jam band fest. as for late nights, skrillex started a surprise dj set at like 6am last year, so things still happen late. one of my favorite late night sets was gwar a few years ago at 3am, and afterward they rode golf carts over to the fountain to turn it into a fountain of blood.

i got my volunteer schedule - 1p-7p on thursday, 7a-1p on friday, and 7a-1p on sunday. sucks for the early hours, but honestly i couldn't be happier with that, i won't miss anything except maybe some sleep.

Yeah man, that schedule is fuckin great.

I know the next two weeks are going to fly by, but i still am wishing the clock would move faster. Then, once there, wish the clock would slow down so i can drink in every second of the experience. I'm stoked.

That would be sleeping in by Roo standards. If you can stay in your tent 30 minutes after sunrise you are more than a man than I am. Source: veteran of 6 Roo's.

Fucking sweet. I wonder why Rob is gonna be there? Also, he will rip up classic 80's bass rifts.
