I couldn't even convince anyone in my group of friends to come to Alpine this summer.

I plan on trying to get a few people to come to Farm Aid with me, but don't know whether I'll have any luck. Has anyone else encountered this type of problem?
Last shows I saw was in 2012, was aged 31 at the time. NONE of my friends wanted to go. So this is obviously not high school related but point is-people don't give a shit about DMB anymore at whatever age.

It was the same 20 years ago when I was in high school. I used to be made fun of for liking DMB. Now, the kids who made fund of me for liking DMB like DMB.

Point being, don't worry about them. You like what you like. They like what they like...even if they like shit.

I never really got made fun of in HS for liking DMB because I didn't get into them until I was probably a junior (fall 2005; graduated in 2007). I only knew a couple people who also liked DMB and a few who broke my balls about it. Never bothered me because I also listened to a lot of classic rock then as well and always had that to fall back on.

That’s what I love about high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age. And hate dmb.

There was plenty of love for DMB in my high school 15 years ago. But there was plenty of dislike for DMB as well.

Discovered them (really started listening to them) when I was a JR in HS (Graduated 2011) and it seemed like only me and one of my best friends were into them.

When I went to southaven this summer I saw a lot more people from my hs than I expected. This is not huge numbers but atleast 8 people from my hs were at that concert.

I took a friend to the show and he really enjoyed it. That dude used to hate dmb and he used to call dave gay. After the show he said it was the best damn music he ever heard. He was blown away by the band and went on and on about how that was the best concert ever. Now that dude is bugging me to make him a mix of dmb songs and he also wants a few full shows. His favorite songs are typical situation, BOWA, Seek up, ants and crash, not bad for a new fan! He also started listing to WSP. It's amazing how things can change so quickly.

Amazing how time has changed. When I was in HS plenty of people loved DMB and the shows were the highlights of any given week/month/year. I was lucky enough to have a friend at UVA who would send us tapes and we would go to any show we could in the area: Hartford, Roseland, Jones Beach, Great Woods, etc, etc. By the end of 1995 a bunch of us had seen 4 or 5 shows in our junior (or sophomore in some cases) year - then again we did not have cell phones, iPads, etc, etc so if there was a show in the area we would just grab a block of tickets (they were easier to get back then) and all sit together in pretty damn good seats.

I was in High School in the 90's, and the radio played DMB all the time, so DMB was pretty common and known back then.

Yeah same here, plus I grew up in Lynchburg (about an hour from Charlottesville) so DMB was a big deal. Our "local" band that made it. Probably a quarter of my senior class went to the 4/18/98 concert in Roanoke. And then a handful of us went to the VA Beach show that summer as well.

I was in middle school, 2002 7th grade when I went to my first show because of my best friends brother who was a fan- i tried to not like them and go against my pack of friends, then i went to the 1st show and it was all over. For some reason where im at its actually the opposite everyone loves them- they are all basically common fans, know the popular songs, but when DMB would come around us half the school was there, it was pretty fun.

Honestly most of my DMB friends I've met here. Haters can talk smack about Ants all they want, but some of my best friends over the last several years have been ones I met here.

Yeah but that only started in late 1994 when Ants became a hit, then it got crazier and crazier as Crash and BTCS came out.

I'm a high school teacher outside Denver and I haven't heard a single student mention them...ever. When I was in high school (graduated 06), they got increasingly popular throughout my 4 years. By 05/06ish, everyone was into DMB. I grew up in the chicago burbs so Alpine was fucking packed with kids from my high school. We still joke about it today, how EVERYONE used to go. I think those same types of kids today are more into festivals in general, and some of the EDM stuff. It seems like there's less exclusive band obsessions and more of a culture surrounding festivals in general which are also awesome. But when I was in school, it was just "Dave". Who's "going to dave." Question of every summer.

I think those same types of kids today are more into festivals in general, and some of the EDM stuff. It seems like there's less exclusive band obsessions and more of a culture surrounding festivals in general which are also awesome. But when I was in school, it was just "Dave".
