What if they worked with those networks and offered it as a subscription streaming option? So you go to the network website and stream the game without announcers. It's a niche market but I think it would be a profitable one. It wouldn't really deter most fans from watching regular broadcasts. If you're watching with your family then you would absolutely watch the tv broadcast, if you're by yourself or with your buddies you might watch the uncensored stream.

it would obviously be tagged with a label that denoted suggestive language. this wouldn't be something dads would watch with their 10 year olds. that what the major TV stations are for.

RedZone still uses the actual feeds from the network broadcasts

the subscribed "mic'd" versions could still be broadcast through the networks, just at an additional cost. the networks would more than likely see some of that profit, so they'd still be getting their fair share.

to say it's entirely not doable/unrealistic is a little bit ignorant.

you guys realize that the TV networks PAY the NFL for the rights to broadcast, right? they don't make any money at all from the NFL, they make money by selling advertising slots

these networks can't sell advertisement on another channel

it's not doable....these contracts are iron clad for broadcasting rights

I am still not seeing how its not doable. By your logic the RedZone channel does not exist.

So, use the network feeds minus the audio from the booth. Done.

So? They would just add a channel for each broadcast sans blubbering booth talk.

Not sure why you think, if there is a buck to be made, the NFL would be against it.

i never said the NFL was against making a buck

i'm saying the networks would fight this. they have a lot of money invested into NFL TV rights and to me, the idea is great but it sounds like a clear breach of contract

announcers are a part of the deal

    Bad deal then.

Sure, I'm guessing it would have to be discussed, I'm not saying it wouldn't, but it could be done. Especially if there was an additional charge.

if it could be done, it wouldn't be until 2022 which is when the current TV deals expire

and i don't see it ever happening because networks are willing to pay so much for exclusive rights

I agree it won't happen, but I think its because networks actually think its a better product with the announcing.

    Networks are dumb.

I would love it for all sports, except maybe MLB, I'm not always glued to the TV for every pitch, so having an announcer to let me know when something happened would be helpful sometimes.

Would love the option of switching back and forth between announced channels and non.

Its a little thing but NBA league pass having the option to pick which team's announcers you want to listen to is a great feature.

    yea that's a nice feature

99% of the time, local announcers, no matter which market, who have been around a team for years/decades are miles better than national guys.

Pat Foley is a prime example. when he announces the Blackhawks, it's a blast.

Idk who Kevin Burkardt is paired with typically, but he is better than most.
