Blessed with living 10 minutes away from Alpine until 3 years ago (now 20 minutes) I've taken the liberty of offering up some good links for food, lodging, and things to do in the area.
Lodging -
Link
Country Inn and Suites - East Troy - 5 minutes
Rodeway Inn - Mukwonago - 15 minutes
Baymont Inn - Waterford - 15 minutes
Baymont is probably the nicest (it was nice enough for me to use it as the hotel where guests stayed after my wedding reception). The Country Inn (now called East Troy Inn and Suites) is the closest hotel to the venue outside of the overpriced Alpine Lodge and is well kept. The Rodeway Inn isn't bad either. Not dirty but probably the least nice of the three hotels listed in the link above (and the cheapest).
Outside of these three, you will have hotels in Elkhorn, Delavan, and Lake Geneva (20-35 minutes away). Lake Geneva is the nicest area but you will pay for it (it's basically a weekend tourist attraction for people from Illinois).
Food

Things to Do
Milwaukee has a lot to offer for being such an under the radar city. Stick to the 3rd Ward for a quick bite to eat and some cheap local brews and you'll do just fine. The Benelux, Milwaukee Market Place, Sobelmans, and Wicked Hop are all great choices for grill food.
The Milwaukee Art Museum - Phenomenal and situated right on the lakefront. A must see for any art enthusiasts. -

Brewery Tours - Both below are extremely good for craft breweries.

Avoid the Miller Brewery Tour at all costs. It's lousy and beerless until the very end.
