Da Bulls

I was looking to post some Bulls info, and couldn't find a thread on it. So I figured we needed a thread to discuss Da Bulls... Da Beers.... Da Air... Man.

    Re: Da Bulls

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3383366

Mike D'Antoni's strong interest in coaching the Chicago Bulls emerged last week. Now it's being officially reciprocated.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Monday night that Bulls general manager John Paxson came away from two interviews with D'Antoni in Phoenix impressed and seriously interested in the coach who wants to leave the Suns in part because of a tense working relationship with Paxson's good friend Steve Kerr.

Sources in both organizations openly expect D'Antoni to wind up in Chicago -- with one Phoenix source going so far as to describe a deal as "imminent" -- but it's believed that financial complications account for the one obstacle that could derail his move from the desert to the Windy City.

It has been suggested in coaching circles that D'Antoni could be too expensive for Chicago, especially if the Bulls are also required to provide Phoenix with some form of compensation for letting him out of his contract.

Although he also interviewed with new New York Knicks president Donnie Walsh within the past 48 hours, New York is not considered a realistic destination for D'Antoni. Chicago would appear to be a much better match. A position with the Bulls would offer not only a move to the easier East but also an opportunity to work with several players who have been linked to Phoenix in trades in recent years (Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas and Thabo Sefolosha) as well a budding star (Luol Deng) who was drafted with a pick traded by the Suns to Chicago.

If there's a basketball issue working against D'Antoni's candidacy in Chicago, it's that Paxson -- like his friend Kerr -- is much more conservative and defensively focused in his approach than D'Antoni.

Avery Johnson, and Rick Carlisle are also candidates. Pax has already interviewed Rick. Our interim coach Boylan is already back as an assistant on Skiles staff in Milwaukee. My main beef is that Pax wants a defensive coach. This team already learned how to play defense under Skiles. We need to learn how to score.

D'Antoni's Sun's style offense would be perfect for this team. We have the young athletic players to run it. There's not as many good teams in the East, so we'd have an easier road to the finals.

Well thankfully we have a lottery pick, so I'm hoping they get whoever it is they need to make that offense work. But the Suns wanted guys like Noah and Thomas. So we already have some of those players in place. I think Deng and Gordon would really take off in that kind of offense.

Heinrich has done nothing but REGRESS every year since 2005. This team is better with Gordon or Duhon at the point. Problem with Heinrich is he's likely to go scoreless in a game. That's not something you want from your PG.

Now maybe Heinrich would click in this new offense, which would be great. Because with his contract we're stuck with him. I don't know what's wrong with him, but he used to be so promising. Then he just kept regresssing. Unless our new coach likes him, and thinks he could fix him. I'd try to trade him for anything.

If anything, this season might turn out for the better. They offered Gordon and Deng a lot of money going into last season. All those two did was hurt their value, and hopefully we can get them on the cheap.

DJ Augustin would be a great fit. If they can't land a PG though, D'Antoni won't do much in Chicago.

    I mean wow.
The Bulls won the draft lottery with only a 1.7 percent chance of doing so.
Talk about luck. This may be the start of better things for Da Bulls.

    So who do they take?
    Beasley or Rose?

I'd assume they take the hometown hero Derrick Rose. I'm just about done with Hinrich, I don't see him getting much better. He looks like he's already hit his ceiling sadly.

The Bulls should take the hometown kid, but ...

Go play at a program that Bruce Weber is running into the ground or compete for a national championship? Tough choice.

You know what drives me insane? The fact D'Antoni wanted to come here. We have the personel to run his system. Tyrus Thomas would have become a dominating big man. Ben Gordon would have become a threat, and Deng might have reached his potential. Then if we could have added Rose to be the Nash of the system. We'd have been well on our way to contention.

SECAUCUS, N.J. -- The Chicago Bulls were the big winners in the 2008 draft lottery Tuesday night, taking home the top pick despite a measly 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery.

Only one team, the 1993 Orlando Magic, has overcome greater odds to win the lottery. Now comes the Bulls' biggest task: deciding whom to take with the No. 1 pick.

In our latest mock draft, I have the Bulls selecting Kansas State forward Michael Beasley by a hair.

Yes, Derrick Rose is a hometown candidate and a clear upgrade over their current point guard, Kirk Hinrich. And he's my favorite player in the draft. But that isn't the only consideration.

Most general managers have Beasley ranked ahead of Rose in the talent department. Rose may have more upside and plays a critically important position, but if you ask GMs and scouts to rate guys purely on talent, Beasley comes out ahead. In fact, until Rose's excellent run in the NCAA tournament, most NBA scouts and GMs scoffed at the idea of taking anyone other than Beasley with the first pick in the draft.

They need to take Rose. They need a legitament point guard to run their offence (ala Chris Paul and Darrin Williams). So they need to sign and trade Gorden for another big man and move Kirk to the 2 spot.

If they have a startin five of:

    PG - Rose
    SG - Kirk
    SF - Deng
    PF - Gooden
    C - Trade for someone

and Tobo, Thomas, and Noch off the bench, they could go deep into the playoffs

It is a horrible idea to trade Gordon so you can start an undersized and unathletic Hinrich, who also happens to be coming off the worst season of his career, at the 2.

Gordon is smaller than Hienrich is and Gordon can't play defense. Kirk can play defense (or at least could 2 seasons ago)

Both are listed at 6'3". Hinrich has been able to guard point guards relatively well, but I think he would struggle if you asked him to guard people at the 2. If I were Chicago I'd get whatever I could to get Hinrich off the books, start Hughes at the 2 and have Gordon come off the bench, where he is best. Then next year the Bulls could try and trade Hughes' expiring contract with one of their young assets for an upgrade at the 2.
