Looking good for LSU so far. They go back-to back- to back HR's in the 1st inning for a 7-1 in the 3rd.

It was an offensive day to wrap up the Super regionals and the CWS is set.

LSU jumps all over UC-Irvine early and often to close out the famous Alex Box stadium with a 21-7 win and LSU's first trip to Omaha since 04.

And in perhaps the strangest game of the postseason, Arizona State has an in-team scuffle before the game, tied with Fresno State 5-5 after 6, Fresno State explodes for 6 in the 7th inning. But wait...we aren't done yet. Leading 12-6 going into the bottom of the 9th, Fresno State gives up 4 runs and the winning run is at the plate but the Bulldogs hang on to defeat the #3 seed.

Fresno State, the 4th seed in the regionals is in Omaha for the first time since 1991 and only the 4th time in school history.

The field for Omaha is set.

    Miami vs. Georgia
    Stanford vs. FSU
    UNC vs. LSU
    Rice vs. Fresno State.

CWS in Omaha for the next 27 years.

There will be 3 more series played in Rosenblatt Stadium before the new stadium is ready to use in 2011.

    Quote:
    The deal has been inked.

NCAA President Myles Brand and College World Series Inc. President Jack Diesing this morning signed the contract that will keep the championship in Omaha through 2035.

The signing took place in Qwest Center Omaha parking lots C and E on what will become home plate in the new downtown stadium. Local officials and those who have worked on the new ballpark project applauded the signing, which is the culmination of more than a year of planning.

Brand said that Omaha’s willingness to build a new stadium for the College World Series represents the city’s unique commitment to the NCAA.

“Building a new stadium in the heart of a great city is another example of the innovative approach we have in this relationship,“ he said. “This is a really special relationship to the NCAA. There is no other relationship like it.“

Brand said one element of that relationship that can’t be written into a contract is the mutual trust that the NCAA enjoys with Omaha.

Amid the sounds of an organ playing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,“ Diesing asked the crowd to envision themselves in the new stadium. “Everywhere you look the place is filled with families and children as they cheer for their favorite collegiate team,“ Diesing said.

Mayor Mike Fahey, MECA Chairman David Sokol and Creighton University Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen all attended, as well as NCAA Managing Director of Baseball and Football Dennis Poppe. All members of the Omaha City Council also attended, with the exception of Councilman Garry Gernandt who represents south Omaha and had lobbied to keep the series at Rosenblatt Stadium.

More pieces of the ballpark puzzle are expected to fall into place later today at the City Council meeting. The council is expected to ratify an agreement with the MECA to build and operate the new stadium, as well as several other key CWS agreements.

The council also is expected to sign off on increases in the city's car rental fee and hotel tax to help pay for the $140 million stadium project.

This year’s College World Series will get under way Saturday at Rosenblatt Stadium with games at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

All of those times are Central, btw.

Does anyone know if the games are on XM or Sirius? I'm gonna be tailgating for SPAC on the afternoon of the 20th, and I'm hoping Miami is going to be playing in that game. I would think someone in the group will have satellite radio..

That should suffice then. I would imagine there's a Westwood One affiliate up there. I have a little pocket radio I can bring. It's one of the ones that also receives TV-bands, and I bring it with me to Jaguars games. Yes, I'm that guy -- sort of. I only have one earbud wired in I can't always hear it, but at times, it's handy.

I'm sure there is a wwone affiliate but...do they carry it? I'm guessing that they aren't required to take it and, especially in NY, I wonder if they would want to.

Based on the schedule on their site, WWOne is only carrying the championship games... if I'm reading it correctly.

Network wide. The only reason I know that WWOne carries the whole series is because the guy who broadcasts it is a local Omaha guy that does all the games and they air in Omaha all series long.

I guess I don't know what happens outside Omaha during the series but I imagine any WWOne affiliate has at least an option to carry the games

Hmm. Well, we'll see what I get. I think I have found people who have Sirius, so I should be set.

The College World Series is underway!

Stanford scores 11 in the 8th inning after Florida State had battled all the way back to tie it at 5 and the Cardinal blow out the 'Noles 16-5.

It was the 7th time in CWS history that a team scored 11 in an inning. The first since Cal State Fullerton did it against LSU in 1994.

Stanford plays the winner of Miami/Georgia on Monday. Florida State plays the loser.

I can't believe you all won that, either...

That last inning really sucked to watch. Miami-FSU on Monday, to stay in Omaha. Not the kind of stress I need while I'm at work...

Its been said but what a comeback by UGA last night. Down 4-3 going into the top of the 9th, UGA scores 4 and stuns #1 Miami 7-4.

Miami plays Florida State in an elimination game Monday afternoon.
UGA faces Stanford in the winners bracket game on Monday night.

    Todays games:
Upstart Fresno State takes on Rice this afternoon and LSU will take on North Carolina tonight.

The 3rd lowest seeded team won this afternoon so far in the college world series and it is the most surprising. Party crashers Fresno State dropped a bomb on Omaha by bombing out Rice 17-5.

Fresno State moves onto the winners bracket game to face the winner of North Carolina and LSU. Rice will play the loser.

North Carolina saves face for the higher seeded teams in the last game of the opening round at the CWS. UNC puts the pressure on LSU from the get go and cruises to a 8-4 win over LSU.

LSU falls to the losers bracket and will have a tough test to stay alive against Rice.
UNC will face Fresno State in the final game on Tuesday

Florida State goes 2 and 'que at the CWS after falling to Miami 7-5.

That is Florida States 19th appearance at the CWS without a title. A number that leads the pack. Clemson is in 2nd in the dubious group with 11.

Miami moves on to play the loser of tonights game between Stanford and Georgia.
