I honestly am very excited about what he's going to bring. I didn't think he'd put up 10 points in his first 10 games. Anyone that did was off their rocker. He's shown some vintage Brad Richards at times, but you can tell he's trying to figure out how he fits right now. He had a CLASSIC Brad Richards one timer from just a couple feet north of the goal line late in the 3rd last night that I'm still not sure how Rinne stopped.
I think Q is easing him in to the system. Anyone with half a brain knows that he wasn't brought in to center the 3rd line with Bickell and Versteeg, and Shaw isn't what Q really sees as the long term solution at 2C. I'm sure Q's thought process was "let's ease Brad into this thing, and the chemistry of Shaw and Kane during the WCF was incredible, so I'll stick with that."
Perfect example, MSL last year. EVERYONE was shitty all over him. Not just in this thread, but everywhere. Melrose, NHL Network, etc. I just kept saying "give it time...it's going to click, give it time..." And when it did he was great. Put up 8 goals and 15 points to help take the Rangers to the SCF.
I'm not saying Brad Richards will be on a point per game pace in the next couple weeks, but give the guy some time. People demand instant results and it's just absurd. Why can we not have patience with anyone anymore and let a guy grow into his role? People jump to these insane meatball conclusions when they don't see brilliance immediately. Give it time. It's a matter of when, not if, that Q bumps him up to play with Kane and Saad once BR is more comfortable, and when that happens, then we'll really see. Like I said, we've seen flashes of vintage Brad Richards, he just doesn't look totally comfortable on his skates yet. If it's Februrary/March and we're still talking about whether or not he fits while he's on pace for 20 points, then I'll eat my words, but for now, I'm really excited about the flashes of his game that I've seen.
