Re: Philadelphia Eagles

O-line decimated with injuries, non-existent running game, shoddy QB play, and a suspect secondary and we're 5-1.

This team hasn't even come close to hitting its potential yet, which is the best thing about all of this. Hell, even if they go 5-5 down the stretch, that still puts them at 10-6. I'm cautiously optimistic they can make a run this year.

I agree 100%...We are 5-1 with only playing one complete game, and Foles hasnt even shown up yet! If he can limit his mistakes, and we can keep everyone else healthy we are in a great position to get home field advantage and make a serious run. I feel great about where we are

Kelly really should've challenged the spot on that Polk run at the goal line. Pretty sure he had the first down.

yeah at that point in the game there's no reason to keep that in your back pocket

Polk was also running wild, and is more north-south than Shady...i dont understand the why they subbed him out

Williams and Allen are fucking horrible. I actively dislike Williams at this point - guy is a loudmouth who can't back it up for shit.

Cary Williams and Nate Allen are painfully terrible...and the fact that we cant gain 1 yard on the goaline is getting old. Im also as pro-Foles as anyone, but I am almost ready to pull the plug with these terrible interceptions weekly.

i never bought into 27/2, but based somewhat on that I thought he'd be capable of around 30/12

he's regressed so much this year, and its not even about the Oline anymore. The protection yesterday was very good. At one point on the last drive the blitz came, was picked up, but Foles wouldnt step up and drive the throw. He completed the pass but it was soft and off his back foot. I'm pretty sure that almost every interception thrown has been because 1 of 2 things: he threw off his back foot or he didnt read the defense. I'm not ready to give up on him but its looking a lot less likely that he'll be the QB tied to Kelly's NFL career

I agree with all of this...also he has 0 zip on his throws, everything is a touch pass..Im fairly certain Chip will start looking at other options in the offseason

We'll prob have a good chance of getting Jameis Winston, he'll surely fall to the 20's. Not sure I'd want him though. He's a great fit for this offense but he's such an idiot

Yeah im not crazy about Winston cause he's such a piece of shit, and I wonder if Chip would even take a chance on his personality after cutting Desean for being a piece of shit..very intriguing to have that skill set in Chips offense though. I am a big Hundley fan, but i seriously doubt he drops to us

With a half a day to think it over, here are my points from yesterday:

    - The Huff fumble was a huge turning point. With how tight the game was up to that point, a 14-0 lead could have sealed it. That coupled with a really bad penalty later in the first half makes it clear why he hasn't seen the field much this year. He seems to have some talent but he is not NFL ready.

    - No excuse for not running the ball more. 30 passes to 7 carries for McCoy in the first half is inexcusable, especially when Shady was averaging 5 yards per carry. Establishing the run opens everything up for the passing game and they were doing just that, but for some reason Kelly got pass happy.

    - Foles continues to throw off his back foot despite the fact that the line has been playing much better. He really needs to make smarter decisions and protect the football. These turnovers really make me question his longevity with this team. However, all things considered he had a pretty decent game yesterday, and his poise on the final drive was very encouraging (even if it didn't end with points).

    - Kelly absolutely had to challenge the spot on Polk's run on 3rd and inches. He had absolutely nothing to lose by throwing the flag there. A first down would have virtually guaranteed a win.

    - No clue how they rescinded the horse collar penalty that brought Cooper down on the final drive. The tackler was clearly inside Cooper's pads from behind, and that would've put us 15 yards closer with plenty of time left to make something happen.

    - Nate Allen is simply not good enough to start in the NFL. Cary Williams isn't much better.

All that being said, I had this game chalked up as a loss anyway, but much like the SF game I hate knowing that we were THAT close and couldn't capitalize. I still see this team going 12-4 (with losses at Dallas and at Green Bay).

I also had us losing this game, and San Fran, but it hurts knowing we could have (should have) won both. I also have 12-4 with splitting 2 with Dallas, and Green Bay

I'm worried about Houston next week. Clowney will be back and Watt has been unbelievable. Pair that up with a QB who turns the ball over a lot and we could be in big trouble

He actually didn't. If you look at where the drive started, the ball was touching the 10. The marker we saw on TV was inaccurate. Polk most likely didn't even get the first down.

    And Kelly also said...

    Quote:
“I don’t think the league rate at overturning spots, in terms of where his knee was down—most of the time the err, I think percentage wise in the league, if you study the percentage of it there you err on the previous call on the field because it’s very difficult to tell on the spot unless it’s kind of a clear-cut open field kind of thing.”
More explained here, which makes sense: http://www.crossingbroad.com/2014/10...polks-run.html

challenging a spot is so difficult. watch it 10x and you still wont know

that said, should have had foles under center for 3rd down, and if they didnt get it he should have gone on 4th

worst case scenario they dont get it and turn it over at the 6" line. Cards prob go 3/out and punt it to the 40, almost in FG range with 1:30-2:00 left

Except I'm not talking about the first down marker, but the actual line on the field.

Look at the replay - Polk falls on top of a Cardinal, and isn't actually down until his elbow hits, when the ball is maybe 3 inches from the goal line. He had enough. They spotted the ball nearly a foot behind where it should have been.

That's tougher - I don't fault Kelly going for the points on the road with how the defense played up to that point. It's just unfortunate that we have two players in the secondary who shouldn't be anywhere near the field.
