Re: Philadelphia Eagles
With a half a day to think it over, here are my points from yesterday:
- The Huff fumble was a huge turning point. With how tight the game was up to that point, a 14-0 lead could have sealed it. That coupled with a really bad penalty later in the first half makes it clear why he hasn't seen the field much this year. He seems to have some talent but he is not NFL ready.
- No excuse for not running the ball more. 30 passes to 7 carries for McCoy in the first half is inexcusable, especially when Shady was averaging 5 yards per carry. Establishing the run opens everything up for the passing game and they were doing just that, but for some reason Kelly got pass happy.
- Foles continues to throw off his back foot despite the fact that the line has been playing much better. He really needs to make smarter decisions and protect the football. These turnovers really make me question his longevity with this team. However, all things considered he had a pretty decent game yesterday, and his poise on the final drive was very encouraging (even if it didn't end with points).
- Kelly absolutely had to challenge the spot on Polk's run on 3rd and inches. He had absolutely nothing to lose by throwing the flag there. A first down would have virtually guaranteed a win.
- No clue how they rescinded the horse collar penalty that brought Cooper down on the final drive. The tackler was clearly inside Cooper's pads from behind, and that would've put us 15 yards closer with plenty of time left to make something happen.
- Nate Allen is simply not good enough to start in the NFL. Cary Williams isn't much better.
All that being said, I had this game chalked up as a loss anyway, but much like the SF game I hate knowing that we were THAT close and couldn't capitalize. I still see this team going 12-4 (with losses at Dallas and at Green Bay).
