Re: Official Television Thread v2.0

Fell asleep on the couch last night with TV land on since I was watching Everybody loves Raymond. Woke up to this show Ive seen advertised on there before called "Teachers"

Watched it for like 15 mins before going up to bed, my god, it was the worst thing I have ever seen on cable television. I dont even know how this garbage got greenlighted, let alone got to a second season.

Just finished through Season 4 of my Breaking Bad re-watch. This is an excellent show but I still stand by that Mad Men was better.

Just finished Sneaky Pete. So good! Loved the Rounders, Ocean's 11 vibe to it at times, but much more than that.

Also just read an interview with Bryan Cranston about it. He said the start of the inspiration for the show basically came from his acceptance speech at the Emmy's a few years ago for Breaking Bad. So I looked that up. Worth a quick rewatch!

first of all, so damn the thing's finally out? Because I swear the very first clip or preview I remember seeing for this series feels like it was at least a good 8-9 months ago.
But so it also really does feature at least one good, compelling con? Because I absolutely love con man stories, maybe my favorite genre, but there have been ones that were really disappointing, focusing more just on the people themselves but not really showing much of a scheme going down (*ahemTheGriftersahem*).

through 5 episodes of Quarry and really enjoying it. Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan both had it on their "best shows of 2016" lists so I figured I'd check it out. The directing/cinematography reminds me quite a bit of Breaking Bad. I think Cinemax has a hit on their hands with this. The acting is excellent, and the plot is exciting. It's kind of like a more action-y Rectify, set with a tone similar to Justified/Banshee.

It's set in 1972 and is about a Vietnam war vet who comes home from the war and finds himself rejected/scrutinized, and ends up getting involved as a hitman for this guy called "The Broker". I highly recommend it

    Anyone else watch at all?

I liked the first season. Super violent, which is in my wheel house.

Speaking of Rectify; I think I watched the first three episodes and it bored me to tears. Does something, anything, eventually happen in that show?

Ugh, I gave up middle in the middle of Season 2. Just couldn't make it through anymore episodes. I think Clay finished it. Maybe he could tell us what happened.

I quit in the middle of Season 2 as well. Somehow, it's hailed by critics. I have no idea why or how, because that show is more boring than watching paint dry.

I've got the final 13 episodes sitting on my DVR. I thought the first season was an understated masterpiece, but it lost me at the beginning of Season 3. A lot of credible websites praised the final season as the best television of 2016 though.

I'll get around to finishing it eventually.

Yeah it's actually been about a year and a half since the first episode was released so I rewatched the first episode again and glad I did.

But yeah, great story. I wouldn't say as deep a con story as Inception or anything, but really good. Good characters and actors. I love Giovanni Ribisi.

Set up for a second season too.

Yeah it starts slipping after S3. S4 & 5 aren't too bad. S6 is hands down the worst. S7 redeems the show. S3 finale is still the best episode of the series.

Yeah, it's a bit slow but I still find it pretty interesting. I read a few reviews about this season and most of them mention less action (at least at the start) in favor of more character development, which is clear with Quinn/Carrie and also Carrie/Sekou. I think both reviews I read mentioned a slow burn - I have a feeling that it will get better as the season goes along.

S2 and S7 are the best two seasons, in my opinion. Agree on the S3 finale. That was great.

Only have 2 episodes of Sneaky Pete left. I am loving it so much. Definitely can tell it has the Justified showrunner in charge - he just has such a knack for blending drama and comedy in a crime show. It's a really enjoyable watch.

Is Cranston involved in acting or just behind the scenes? Is he in many episodes if so? I probably will watch, but it will rapidly jump to the top of my list of he is in it/a lot

Started This is Us yesterday. Holy crap - what a show. Got through 9 episodes and actually debated to stay up until 3 am to get caught up. Wife talked me down from the ledge because adulting and responsibilities. Looking forward to binging the rest tonight though.

Cranston plays the main villain of the first season and is in every episode. Some episodes he may only have 5-10 minutes of screentime, but others more, and so far he's been in every single one. I haven't finished yet so I can't speak for whether he meets his end or if he will be returning in front of the camera in Season 2, but he's definitely a presence in season 1.
