New Album Rituals

Apologies in advance if this is a horrible first post......

Anyway, I am a pretty new fan and this is my first time anticipating a DMB album release - it's exciting! As I wait for some sort of news, checking dmband.com five times a day, I am beginning to think about what I am going to do when an is actually released (which hopefully will be some day in the near future....). Am I going to go on a long drive and have the CD on repeat? Will I go find a peaceful spot outdoors and lay in the sun and listen?

I would love to hear what people have done in the past when first listening to a new DMB album as well as what they plan on doing this time. Thanks!!

I treat it like wine: a little taste to see what it's all about, let it breathe. Eventually it turns into an empty bottle. Guess that's more of a character trait than a ritual....

Great first post! I'm planning on going somewhere, anywhere I can find some peace and quiet, and listen to the whole thing from start to finish. When past albums came out, I kind of skipped around a lot, eventually hearing all of the songs. I find the best way to really "hear" any album, though, is to just listen all the way through.

First listen to BTCS: I was in a car, fresh from the record store, enjoying the sound of Rapunzel.....I listened to the album in pieces over the course of a few days and took it in.

First listen to Everyday: Listened to it in the car, liked it because it was new dmb music, but couldn't believe that they ditched the Lillywhite album for I Did It. Fast forwarded to Everyday to at least hear the #36 redo.

First listen to Lillywhites: I was sweating at my computer downloading mp3s from a guy who sent them from his cell phone or something. I burned them to a cd and my mind exploded hearing great versions of songs I had been waiting for.

First listen to Busted Stuff: I went to a midnight launch at Tower Records, sped home, and stayed up until the 3am sucking down each track multiple times. Enjoyed it profusely.

First listen to Stand Up: I laid on my couch listening to the dual-sided cd....I kept waiting for it to get better....before I knew it, the album was almost over and I couldn't believe that THIS was the new dmb album. It was a bummer because the cover art was cool.

First listen to Big Whiskey: I quite enjoyed it, listened to it all the way through. Not mind-blowing, but better than Stand Up!!!

Lock myself in my bedroom (my most familiar place, so as to have no distractions), turn off the phone, the computer (NO ANTS!), everything. Lay down, close my eyes and listen from start to finish. Rinse, repeat.

Big whiskey was the first album release I was a part of as a fan and I hated how I listened to it. Individual tracks began leaking from ants and I listened to those songs a few times. Then when the full album finally came out, I had already heard most
Of the songs and I felt like I didn't have a true listening session

This time around I plan on having some self control (hopefully) and wait until either a full leak comes out or until the actual album
Comes out so I can listen to it in full, and all the songs (outside of the single) are all completely brand new to me

What I do is basically shut myself in a room, put the new album in, hit play, and do nothing but listen to it all the way through with either a soda, mineral water, or a cup of tea.

The first time I listened to BW was when they had it on that Brita site a few days before it released. I listened to it on a shitty pair of headphones and I regret it.

This time, I'm going to try not to listen to any of the songs (except the single) before I get the actual disc. Then, I will probably listen to it with my family on a nice set of speakers. We're all big DMB fans. So, that'll be awesome! I can't wait!
