Re: Mike Doughty Fans

Didn't even know he had a new one coming out. I kinda forgot about him after his last album which I thought was pretty bad except for a couple of songs. I love me some Haughty Melodic though.

I don't have the new one yet. Like Beefy, I wasn't that into Sad Man, Happy Man. However, Na Na Nothing, the first single from Yes and Also Yes, is really good. It reminds me of Haughty Melodic, in a way, but a bit on the darker side. Not like gothy, but (as weird as it sounds) like Brittany Spears' "Toxic" darker.

Hoping to get out to buy the album tonight, or at least this week.

Nobody in my area has this record! Have to run to a small record shop about a half hour away that has ONE that they're holding for me.

and Haughty Melodic is the shit.

anyone planning to go to Doughty's show at the Paradise in Boston tomorrow? I have an extra ticket (one of my friends ditched) and i'm trying to get rid of it for face ($20) or slightly below... I just don't want it to go to waste.

Please let me know if you're interested!

    Notes:

    - Opening for Big Head Todd & The Monsters

    - Artwork by Kenny Smith

    - There was a group of people who showed up early for BHTM and used Mike’s set as chat time. For this reason, I was forced to delete the microphone channel nearest to them. The right microphone channel was copied over to the left side. Even if you’re not there for the opener, be respectful to the artist who is on stage and your fellow patrons.

Saw Mike at a living room show last night, it was absolutely awesome. If he does one near you, cannot recommend enough.

I saw Mike Doughty at Rams Head in Annapolis, MD yesterday. Matinee show with Scrap, his bass/cellist/friend. They played Soul Coughing's 1996 album "Irresistible Bliss" in its entirety, which wasn't advertised. It was great! Their banter was entertaining. His voice sounds great and the stripped down arrangements were well done.

The three song encore included: Janine, Circles, and True Dreams of Wichita.

Funny, I just went and saw him on Friday. Not really a fan, but my buddy is, so my wife and I joined he and his girlfriend. Cool little intimate show at a pretty cool venue in Boston. Not really anything I’d choose to listen to, but very unique show and a fun night out. People were pissed that the show was so short.

I saw one of the Irresistible Bliss shows at City Winery last year. I love that record so it was great, but very very short. That album plus a few song encore was an hour and 15 minutes tops.

I will say that I was surprised at how short the show was. That album is only 43 minutes. Mine was a matinee (there was another band at Rams Head that evening), so I just assumed that it was short so that they could turn it around for the evening show. I didn't realize it was that short everywhere.

Either way, I enjoyed it. I've been a Soul Coughing/Doughty fan since probably 1999. Despite hearing Super Bon Bon and Circles on the radio, it was the D&T version of "Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago" that turned me onto them. I'd only seen Doughty once before, opening for DMB at MSG in 2005.
