I think it's the Marvel name and most things associated with the Avengers.

They're allowed to use certain characters but can't call it Marvel. That's why they can have a Baymax meet and greet even though it's a Marvel character. They've also had Guardians characters at the park before.

It's very complicated, but not impossible for them to have a Marvel ride. Universal doesn't have rights to GOTG.

Universal is ditching all the Marvel stuff - they are becoming a Mario park.

    Re: Disney World

Just got back from another great week in Orlando.

    Some key notes -

    1. If you're staying off property you can easily pool hop to the Boardwalk pool and Saratoga pool (we threw on our old Magic Bands from the last time we stayed on property).

1a. Also if you're staying off Disney property - to get to your hotel via taxi, take a taxi from the airport to a nearby hotel (~one mile away), and then get Uber from there. Saved me about $35 doing so.

    2. The new Soarin is fantastic, must do for sure.

    3. If you've been drinking for some of the day and go to Ohana for dinner, stay far-far away from a drink called a Lapu Lapu, it fucked me up quick.

    4. The BOATHOUSE was the best meal I've come across on Disney property.

I laughed out loud at #3 just so you know.

Boathouse is at Disney Springs right? What was so good about it? When we go in April, planning Disney Springs the day we get there to not waste a park ticket for a whole couple hours we'd be there so looking for dinner there.

Boathouse is at Disney Springs, yup. The food quality was incredible. Our steaks were perfect; even better than I've had at both Le Cellier and Yachtsman. And relatively speaking the prices were not out of line at all. We sat on the back deck overlooking a great sunset. Just a great experience overall.

And now Disney Springs is amazing. Since they've opened the new sections, you can easily spend a few hours if not a whole day there getting lost in stores, bars and restaurants.

Great to hear, thanks. Looking forward to it. Wanted to head down there back in Oct. but didn't really have the room in the schedule we planned out.

Waiting until April might be awesome as well. Epcot F&G is great, and more things will be opening by then. Not sure at what point in 2017 Avatarland is supposed to open up, but that might be open. Would be great.

New rumors out in the last week, most are bummers

    - Great Movie Ride closing next year, eventually turning into a Mickey Mouse themed ride

    - Tower of Terror @ MGM safe for now as top executives realize they have no rides at MGM. Long term plans to re-theme though still in place.

    - Star Wars Land was supposed to have a people mover type ride but was axed from final plans for initial build.

    - Star Tours will likely be disconnected from the rest of SWL due to muppets sticking around at MGM

    Disneyland Rumors

    - Rumored Frozen Land gaining traction north of old fantasy land near or on top of toon town

    - Marvel Land replacing Hollywood Land in California Adventure

Great Movie Ride while classic.....is just bad. Sorry if you don't feel that way but it's so long, boring and the "actors" are so bad. I don't expect Oscar award winning but...

    1. good. Hate the Great movie Ride. Makes my vertigo kick in at the Wizard of Oz part

    2. been rumored for a while that the top brass love the Tower; I don't think it's going anywhere

    3. that would've been awesome

    4. that's fine. I can live with that.

now if they get realistic about the FL resident tix again instead of the outrageous prices they charge now I'll reconsider going back again.

    Copying Jake's numbering system:

    1. That's interesting considering they just updated the queue movie. I was really hoping they'd update the ride not just get rid of it altogether.

    2. Most of the original Universal-esque behind the scenes movie stuff is gone. So it would make sense to update this. Don't really care that much either way.

    3. If this is true, that's a shame. I love the PeopleMover and my 4yo thinks it's a blue roller coaster (because she's a chicken, ha ha).

    4. Does this mean that Indiana Jones is not closing? I thought Star Wars was expanding in that direction.

Hmmm... I had heard Guardians might be introduced to Epcot at one of the less frequented pavilions (Ellen, Figment, etc) Haven't heard anything that ToT was leaving.

Furthermore, I think some additional updating to HS would be refreshing nonetheless. Spent about an hour there last week to ride Toy Story 5 times in the morning and then see Fantasmic later in the evening. A new story-line to Rockin Roller Coaster would be sweet too.

    1. The deal with Turner Classic Movies is up soon and the rumor is that it was Disney who decided not to renew the contract.

    3. They may be underestimating the demand for that part of the park. A people mover type ride would help with crowd control. We'll see though, they have the numbers and are the experts.

    4. For the near future, the Indy show is safe (or so folks are saying).

My kid loves the people mover at MK. since it's in Tomorrowland he calls it the Miles Ride. For parents of older kids or no kids, that's a new Disney Jr show. We rode it like 100 times when we were there. Although when you're getting tired, it's a nice ride. Would have loved that in Star Wars theme.

True that. I followed a couple Disney forums (I'm obviously a fan) for about three days before being sick of everyone's whiny bitching over there.

I don't understand why people would be this upset. Disney has became such a huge studio they could remake GMR with all Disney movie properties at this point.

Chances are whatever replaces it will be a significant upgrade.

We can argue whether great movie ride fits into that classic ride category, but I'm guessing the reason for people are taking issue with it is pure nostalgia (similar to Maelstrom). There's some merit to that argument too. It was painful to see them remove Mr. Toad from Magic Kingdom years back during the fantasy land rebuild. For many folks, great movie ride is a classic (27ish years old).

Wonder if they'll replace it with something. It did make it tough to get through Main Street as people were lining up hours ahead of time so a positive side there, but it did make some lines shorter as people were hanging out there.

If they brought the DL Paint the Night parade to WDW, that would be incredible.

I'll miss having one last hurrah by 5 days.

With as dated as it was, I still looked forward to it every trip.

Anyone ever eat at Cape May Cafe at Beach Club resort? Just wonder how it was and I read you can walk to it from Epcot. Can anyone from Epcot just walk into the resort?

One of the best character dining experiences there is, all things considered. I've only had breakfast there, which is usually pretty standard fare, but I've heard their seafood dinner buffet is also pretty good.

You can walk into any resort you want. There are just certain amenities (i.e. swimming pools) that you can't necessarily access.

Agreed. We do one character brunch every trip. This time around we went to Cape May and it was fantastic. Great interactions and the food, while mostly standard breakfast fare, seemed to be a notch up from where we've eaten previously.

You can definitely walk there from Epcot. It's very close.

Thanks. We're thinking dinner one day, well my wife is the dinner looker-upper. I really don't care where we eat since I can find something to eat at almost any restaurant. I'm thinking she might have too many ideas and not enough days to make it happen.
