I think I read adults could wear some bare minimum stuff, but I'm not that worried about it. My 2 and 4 year old will want to dress up, and most things seem to be ok from the guidelines on the disney world page: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/ev...lloween-party/

Is this unique Disney candy or just run of the mill stuff? Just curious if it's worth investing a lot of time.

We didn't see many villains, outside of the parade, last time we visited. Getting a chance to meet them should be fun.

Outside of the Haunted Mansion is there anything special about the rides?

Might try doing some fast passes on our hoppers right before lunch, then re-enter on the event ticket, and using the fast passes on the event ticket from 4-7. Wouldn't have a need for doing any rides if it can work out like that.

Thanks for all the great info.
The candy is not Disney related unless they have some Goofy's Candy company stuff in there. I can't remember if they do or not. Otherwise it's normal good candy: https://www.google.com/search?q=mnss...nDyP1qejEFM%3A

The Villains lines may be long. Oh and the princesses will have their princes with them. Rare opportunity to get to see Flynn Rider, the Prince, Prince Phillip, etc...

If you plan on using your MNNSHP tickets for fastpasses DO NOT link them to your MDE. Your MDE will only let you pre-select 3 fastpasses no matter how many tickets you have. If you use your MNNSHP ticket to get in the park you should be able to use it to select fastpasses at a kiosk. I once read some ridiculously convoluted explanation on how to get extra faspasses, in advance, using unlinked tickets or magic bands but it was a little too involved for me to bother. OK, I searched and found the thread. Not sure if the instructions make sense or still work but good luck! http://www.disboards.com/threads/max...sting.3245463/

ETA: Forgot to answer your questions about the ride. I don't think any ride has anything added to it (unlike some of the Disneyland rides that get modified for parties). The only ride that I remember having atmosphere changes was the Haunted Mansion. There was fog, there was an opera singer "ghost", the cast members had makeup, there was spooky lighting and I think music if I remember correctly. Otherwise there are cool lighting effects and ghost projections and pumpkins and other decorations everywhere but no real ride modifications.

Yaaaas! OK, so it's decided. You have to move to NC now so we can be concert buddies and actual buddies. We can run in slow motion through fields at each other yelling either actual names or screen names depending on how sober we are. Flutterbyyyyyyyy!

And you can give me advice on how to deal with my kids when they are teenagers.

I've flown down by myself the last two years and just met up with some law school buddies who now practice in Orlando. The first year I went to MNSSHP twice, once with the whole group and once by myself. Even with the smaller crowds and general atmosphere, the benefits of attending twice didn't justify the costs. That's why I limited it to one night last year.

I'm contemplating two nights again this year though because I'm finally comfortable enough to take my 13-year-old cousin down with me. I really want to make the most of all our time, and he's a Halloween/villain fanatic much like myself. I know how hard it's been for me to go from park opening to park closing without any rest/nap in between though so I'll definitely have to change the way we budget our time.

I had been hearing rumblings of a Memorial Day weekend opening. Makes much more sense to open it during a meaningless Tuesday in June.

It's going to be such a clusterfuck. I've got an 8:35 a.m. dining reservation at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall during my October trip, and I'm gonna try to get in line post-breakfast and also do a Fastpass around that same time. I'm going with a Frozen fanatic. Otherwise I'd contemplate skipping the chaos altogether.

I think that restaurant (Akerhus) is very underrated.

That's what I'm hearing. Looks like they have a lot of your normal breakfast fare but with an infusion of Norwegian flavor. My nephew is a Disney princesses fanatic in general so I think he'll get an even bigger kick out of it.

Not to say we're otherwise ignoring character dining. Hell, we're eating at Cinderella's Royal Table the night before our Akershus reservation. Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace had been the only two character dining experiences I'd had before this upcoming trip, but I'm going all out this time since I'll be traveling with a child (i.e. 'Ohana, 1900 Park Fare, Hollywood & Vine, Tusker House).

    Money be damned.

My wife is the one who wants to do the Frozen ride. My thoughts would be if we're there early and the line is short, I'll do it for something new. But that's about it for me.

The lines for Frozen are going to be dumb since it has the same efficiency as the Malestrom. Get your fast passes early or prepare to wait.

We will be there on a Monday in Nov (showing as a low crowd day)
I am hoping since we will be there at rope drop we can hit Soarin' then get to the world showcase for its rope drop and catch a short-ish line. I'd be ok w/a 30-40 min wait for both, prob be at least a year before we are back to EPCOT.

What are everyone's favorite places to eat in each park? Tentatively have reservations at the following in Sept. Nothing is set in stone, but anything listed here that should be avoided at all cost?

    Sunday (arrive that afternoon)
Dinner: Chef Mickey's - I read some reviews that said the food isn't good, but going so the kids (4 and 2) can see the main characters.

    Monday (Hollywood Studios)
    Breakfast: (undecided)
    Lunch: 50’s Prime Time Café
    Dinner: Mama Melrose

    Tuesday (Magic Kingdom)
    Breakfast: Kona’s Café
    Lunch: Be Our Guest Restaurant
Dinner: Fairytale Dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table

    Wednesday (Epcot)
Breakfast: Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet
Lunch: Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Harvest Feast at The Garden Grill
    Dinner: Le Cellier Steakhouse

Thursday (Animal Kingdom / MK for Mickey's Not So Scary)
Breakfast: [Sleeping in since kids will be out late]
    Lunch: Rainforest Cafe at AK
    Dinner: The Crystal Palace

    Friday (Magic Kingdom)
    Lunch: Liberty Tree Tavern

Flying out later on Friday, but since our hopper is good on Friday we're going to the park earlier in the day and will probably leave after a late lunch. Overall we're doing a lot of the character dining to avoid waiting in lines to meet characters at the park.

That's a lot of table service meals. I mean, that's cool if that's what you want to do or if you have a super deluxe dining plan or something but I don't think I could handle 3 table service meals a day. With that said, the mail over character line waiting is definitely worth it.

Will post my favorites in the next post so this doesn't end up being a mile long.

We do have the deluxe. They offered free dining in Sept so we got that, and then you can just pay to upgrade. Plus you get two snacks a day on that upgraded plan. More than enough food, and it's paid off before we get there.

    MK:
Table Service: Crystal Palace breakfast, Tony's for lunch
Counter Service: Really, all of them are good depending on what you are in the mood for.

    Epcot:
    TS: Coral Reef, Restaurant Marrakesh
CS: Electric Umbrella, random food kiosks if the F&G or F&W festivals are going on

    HS:
TS: 50's Prime Time, Sci Fi Dine In
CS: All of the different options along Sunset Blvd

    AK:
TS: Tusker House for either breakfast or dinner
CS: Flame Tree Barbecue or Yak and Yeti

    Resorts:
TS : (not in any particular order) Kona Cafe, 'Ohana, Whispering Canyon Cafe, Boma, Captain's Grille

    Disney Springs:
Haven't checked out many of the new places but they look fabulous. Love Jock Lindsey's (appetizers and drinks)

Aside from some of the Epcot World Showcase restaurants and some of the higher end resort restaurants, I've probably eaten everywhere.

i will definitely recommend at least this: really try to spread out your meals as much as possible. with the table services, you're going to be fed like a king. we only did one table service per day during our trip in April, and i was full the whole trip. we ended up having a ton of snacks on the last day because no one was incredibly hungry or needed them throughout the days at the park.

early breakfast, noon lunch, and late dinner will definitely help with that.

DMBZeppelin, in response to your picks: I think they are fine. Again that's a lot of time spent at tables but that's your call. I think you can also convert table service into quick service if you are getting stuffed. Just a few things.

I think the buffet dinners, for the most part, are not all that great. I prefer the buffet breakfasts. But do what floats your boat.
Love 50's Prime Time especially if you get a server who's really into the atmosphere of the place.
If you are after characters I would swap 'Ohana for Kona. You get Lilo, Stitch, Pluto and Hawaiian shirt Mickey.
You have back to back princess meals. Again, that's fine but I would consider spreading those out.
I would do Restaurant Marrakesh or Biergarten over Le Cellier depending on how old your kids are. They both have shows and at Marrakesh they can dance with the belly dancer. Or even Coral Reef so they can watch the fish. If you have older kids who won't get antsy in a fancy restaurant then Le Cellier is fine.
Swap Tony's for the Liberty Tree on your last day especially if you are doing a late lunch. Get a 2:30 lunch reservation and ask to sit on the terrace. You can watch the 3pm parade from your table.

Also, you may already know this but just in case you didn't, buses do not go from resort to resort. So keep that in mind for traveling purposes. You have one breakfast and one dinner at a resort. You will need to travel to or be starting from a park or Disney Springs to get to and from the resorts. That can add a lot of time to your trip. Or you can take a cab.

Note that there are exceptions such as the water transportation around the Boardwalk that goes from resort to resort. So depending on where you are staying and where you are going, you may not need to go bus, park, bus resort. If you are staying in a monorail resort, then don't worry about it because your resort meals are in monorail resorts. Although sometimes the monorail breaks down...

Ya on this plan you get 3 credits a day that you can use on either QS or TS.

Chef Mickey's is just because we're only going to be there for dinner that night, and from what I read the character interaction there is top notch.

Cinderella's is the only one that I wouldn't change. My 4 year old really wants to have dinner at the castle.

Crystal Palace is just because I wasn't sure where else to eat. It's Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and from what I read it's harder to get a good meal during that. So we booked it right before the party starts. I ate here last trip and thought the dinner was pretty meh, but I know the kids would love meeting the Pooh characters.

I read the food was really good at Kona's and we're doing so many character meals that I wanted a couple with top notch food. Plus my kids aren't big into Lilo & Stitch, and we'll be seeing Pluto and Mickey at Chef Mickey's. If you think it's worth doing though I'll look into it.

As for the back to back princess meals one they are at different parks on different days. Main reason we're doing the breakfast at Akershus after dinner at Cinderella's is because we can get into Epcot early. Plus both my kids are girls and love princesses. There's no concern with overload.

They are 2 and 4, and I don't think it will be an issue but I'll look into the other places. Le Cellier was 100% for me. I wanted a really good steak and heard Le Cellier is one of the best signature restaurants. I was actually considering Coral Reef for the reason you mentioned.

Every review I've read has trashed Tony's. What do you recommend from there? That parade idea is top notch. Thanks for all the info I really appreciate it.

    Re: Disney World

I have not eaten dinner at Chef Mickeys but the character interaction seemed normal, not over the top. I think it really just depends on who's in the suit.

After 15 years and probably 25 visits we just at at Cinderella's Royal Table. Expensive but so so worth it.

We love Crystal Palace for breakfast. Not a fan for lunch/dinner but I think I think it's more that I'd prefer to stuff myself with breakfast foods. If this is a character meal, the Pooh characters are very cute and interactive. And your kids can join the Poohrade.

'Ohana is typical breakfast food, nothing too special other than the juice. So if you aren't hunting down extra characters you can definitely skip it and get better food at Kona. My mom always gets steak and eggs and I usually switch between the Tonga Toast and Macadamia Nut pancakes. All very very good.

Since you mentioned a last trip, you know that Akershus is pretty deep into Epcot. If you just want to get in early and get to a ride early I would do Garden Grill for breakfast and then run to Soarin or the Nemo ride and/or show. If you haul all the way to Akershus for the early entry aspect you are on the side of the park with Test Track and Mission Space which I'm imaging your kids wouldn't want to do or might not be tall enough to do, and Ellen which is a waste of getting into the park early. Do Akershus for lunch. Aside from the appetizer buffet, it has fairly "normal" food. And Akershus for lunch will put you back there when FW is open and you can avoid the confusion over why your daughters can't ride the Frozen ride right after breakfast. Also, Garden Grille has never disappointed us and we've eaten there through several menus (though admittedly not breakfast). If you haven't eaten here before, the restaurant rotates through part of the Living with the Land ride.

It has been a long long time since I've been to Le Cellier. That said, they have good food and consistently high reviews.

Tony's is certainly not Victoria and Albert's but I'm surprised it's been trashed. I don't really read restaurant reviews unless it's a place I haven't eaten at before and there aren't many places left on that list. The seasonal soup is almost always fantastic. If you are there in September they may have the pumpkin soup out. The shrimp caesar Salad is good. All of the flatbread pizzas have been good. The zuchinni fries are great. And we've had all of the desserts at one time or another. All good. I think my husband has had the chicken parm and did not complain and I think we've had paninis or meatball subs but I've just checked and didn't see that as an option on the menu. It is a fairly limited menu though. But really so are most of the restaurants in the parks. Is Tony's going to be the best meal that you eat all week? Probably not. Are you going to walk away cursing my name and the fact that you wasted a free meal there? I would be very surprised if that happened. Will you have a decent and relaxed view of the parade? If you can get on the terrace before 3pm, definitely. Keep in mind that it's not obstruction free. There will be people and perhaps a tree or a post between you and the parade but it really is a great vantage point for not having to sit on a curb for 30 minutes. And if your daughters like to collect autographs you can get Lady and the Tramp's autographs there, whether or not you eat there. Tell the host/hostess that you heard that they were there and wanted an autograph. They will take the books and stamp them with paw prints. Also, you can go check out the "window" with Lady and the Tramp's shadows on it on the back wall of the restaurant. We love searching for that kind of stuff and you can do that and still be respectful of the people who may be eating nearby.

My favorite dining experiences thus far:

As you'll note, I'm hitting up Be Our Guest three times (one for each meal period) during my next trip. That's mostly because my nephew is obsessed with Beauty and the Beast. Even if the food is largely unremarkable, it's in the running for the best meal environment in all of WDW for me.

Like I said last week, I'm really focusing on the character meals this time since I'm traveling with a child. For future trips I'll pick out the one or two I enjoy the most, although it will be hard for any of them to top Chef Mickey's. I'm mostly looking forward to Hollywood & Vine this go-round because of Minnie's Halloween Dinner. Otherwise I agree that breakfast is definitely the way to go with the buffets.

Apart from the convenience of it being in the Magic Kingdom (especially if you can get a pre-park opening ADR), the Crystal Palace just didn't do much for me.

The prospects of a good meal at MK really went down with Sleepy Hollow discontinuing the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich though. That was my favorite thing to eat in all of WDW.

    Sunday (arrive that afternoon)
Dinner: Chef Mickey's - I read some reviews that said the food isn't good, but going so the kids (4 and 2) can see the main characters.

    Monday (Hollywood Studios)
    Breakfast: (undecided)
    Lunch: 50’s Prime Time Café
    Dinner: Mama Melrose

    Tuesday (Magic Kingdom)
    Breakfast: Kona’s Café
    Lunch: Be Our Guest Restaurant
Dinner: Fairytale Dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table

    Wednesday (Epcot)
Breakfast: Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet
Lunch: Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Harvest Feast at The Garden Grill
    Dinner: Le Cellier Steakhouse

Thursday (Animal Kingdom / MK for Mickey's Not So Scary)
Breakfast: [Sleeping in since kids will be out late]
    Lunch: Rainforest Cafe at AK
    Dinner: The Crystal Palace

    Friday (Magic Kingdom)
    Lunch: Liberty Tree Tavern

Flying out later on Friday, but since our hopper is good on Friday we're going to the park earlier in the day and will probably leave after a late lunch. Overall we're doing a lot of the character dining to avoid waiting in lines to meet characters at the park.

    EPCOT
Get a small snack in a country. Like a ham sandwich from Germany or a noodle dish from Japan or China

    AK
Yak & Yeti. Cannot recommend this enough. Best restaurant in a theme park

Everything else is fine. Expensive but fine. I'd truly blow off a sit down lunch or dinner & only do 1 a day

Edit. Missed the Hollywood Studios change
