Face it people, as much as we would all love it, they won't be playing Red Rocks again.

Economics. Dave and the boys have what, 20 trucks of gear now.
It just doesn't add up that they can make money paying all of those people
    and only selling 9,000 tickets.

Well, sometimes you do it for the love of music not the money, but that is a dream land.... Its all about the money....

However, when you look at it if you charged say 75.00 a ticket it would work. But, I have a very hard time believing that DMB is going to play Red Rocks anytime soon.

i know it's in new mexico, but they do play the journal pavilion which only has a capacity of 12,000, not far off from the 9500 of RR ---big bands do play at RR

that would be a cool place to see DMB. it's just that RR holds a special place in the hearts of DMB fans that a NM venue couldn't compete with.

i agree with u dmb2much40 , i just made the comparison to show others that dmb would not be losing that much $ on ticket sales since the 2 venues are close in seating capacity

Re: Rumor: DMB @ Red Rocks this summer

I'm just going to address various points brought up throughout this thread.

    1) In Colorado, the Dead (old and new) has always had in bigger following than DMB. Might not be the case over the rest of the country, but in Colorado is it most definitely the case.

    2) At one point, about 5-7 years ago, DMB had outgrown Red Rocks and was forced to play bigger Colorado venues like the shitacular Pepsi Center and that disaster that is Folsom Field. Now, however, their fanbase has decreased, they don't sell out 20-30,000 capacity ampitheatres on a consistent basis and a 3-5 night Red Rocks stand is more than possible. Red Rocks has been updated to accomate large crowds so that Morrison doesn't get trashed, which is what happened last time DMB played there. There is no reason that DMB wouldn't do a multi-night stand...that doesn't mean they will, but there really are no major logistical or financial obstacles.

    3) Personally, I don't see this happening, but who knows.

Your first point is definately accurate, all my friends who used to go to DMB shows in 90's don't even listen to the band anymore. Their popularity has really faded in Colorado over the last 5 years.

I would agree with what you say that a good amount of poeple who where DMB fans have walked away from the band saying they have sold out and all that stuff. However, in no way is DMB not popular in Colorado, or that the DEAD has a better following there. You have to remember that DMB gains fans, due to air play and also DMB is the cool thing to listen to in High School and in College. Look half the poeple that post here there first show was like 2001 or later....

Believe me I wish it was different but its not

    Just my thoughts,

Neither of us said they weren't popular, dude. We said that their popularity has unquestionably decreased since their last Red Rocks concert, and that this trend (of decreasing fanbase) might allow them to do a few smaller theatres like Red Rocks. And the Dead DO have a better following here, maybe not in Springs, but certainy in Denver, Boulder and the mountain towns.

I wouldnt agree.... However we will have to agree to disagree...
No way No how does the Dead have a better following then DMB...
I am just talking who is more popular. I would say maybe Boulder would be close but that would be it...

Look how many high schoolers listen to the Dead? How many listen to DMB?
How many poeple in College listen to the Dead? How many listen to DMB?
If you can tell me that at either of these two groups of poeple listen to the Dead over DMB. I would have a hard time buying it.

If you can tell me that the Dead could come and play say Folsom Field and sell more tickets then DMB I am just not buying that either...

Love the Dead and like the fact that they would play infront of a bunch of high schools that know about 3 songs (Crash , Crush and Ants ).....

    Again just my thoughts....

My roommate just told me that he heard that they ARE playing at Red Rocks on the radio today. He couldn't remember what station he was listening to (some Denver/Ft. Collins/Boulder station). He doesn't care about DMB, but he knew that I'd be interested. He actually called me at work to tell me, but I didn't talk to him then.

So actually you would agree...he said there's no good venues...you say Fiddlers suck...so you agree. I have vowed to never see a show at Fiddlers again. Colorado needs a nice size amphitheatre that's doesn' have a curfew and sound restrictions.
