Double disc release for new album?

What does everyone think of a double disc release, so that all of the live songs that have no album to call there own and all the new stuff plus more could become a great new double disc album?

I thought this was talked about a few years back with maybe AFTW, about doing a double disc with one of them being almost like a B sides compilation like you're talking about.

    Obviously never materialized.

Yea, live not live. It's been discussed.

It would be awesome, so it's safe to assume it won't happen.

They wouldn't do a double disc release because they know they can do two singles and get people to buy them and make more money

Re: Double disc release for new album?

Double albums are tough. Hardcore fans love them, but the general public does not. I'd rather them focus on quality.. not quantity.

The Live, not live idea is cool, and AFTW started as the band recording songs not put on an album before.. but it quickly became about new material. I just don't think Dave gets very excited about old material. Once it's been 'completed', and in it's final form, he doesn't seem like he wants to go back and play with it much. So if it hasn't been laid down in the studio, I don't see the guys going back to track them again.

I think I'd rather them just open up the vault and do an album of B-sides. According to Lillywhite, there isn't much that was left on the albums he worked on. I think even the fabled Machead is not in a finished state.. so it might be hard.

I'd quite like that album. Have Idea of You and Samurai Cop be the singles. I'm likely in the minority but I think a studio version of Death on the High Seas would be really good.

Agreed. While I wasn't a big fan of the bombastic BWGK, a new album does need some 'bigger' sounding songs on there. Something I thought AFTW lacked. Or maybe it's just that nothing really grew live Like DDTW, Two Step and Bartender did. These have all been played live, and none of these have grown into anything as close the epic ness of those. Shotgun, maybe. DMB desperately needs some big live songs, or something that will grow into one.

If it's B Sides, yes please. Or at least a mix of some of the better new songs with some classics never recorded in studio.

That would make sense. Put all the shitty new stuff on one, and all the great b-sides on the other.

Agreed. Personally I think that any collection of these recent songs would be a let down. Some of them are good (B&BB, Samurai Cop) great even (Bismark), but the rest added up would just sink the album unless they were really well produced in such a way that would transform them into something beyond what they are in their current state.

None of these tunes are going to be on any new album most likely however, so there's probably not much a point in putting a lot of thought into it.

Yep. I just remember how Bartender started as this tiny little thing before DDTW on D&T 1999 tour (new live tax has it btw). It's gotta start somewhere, and I do have a hard time seeing how some of these new ones can grow into something bigger, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Everyday/tLWS should have been our double CD album. Dave even went on record saying he would've loved to have done that when asked about it soon after Everyday was released.

My God, a double CD release of Everyday/tLWS would've cut down on the shit ton of complaints (and there was more than what could be quantified) Everyday received after it's release AND after we knew what the band scrapped in favor for it.

I think we would've given the band more goodwill for Stand Up had we gotten that double CD album.
