Finally got all the parts in to fix up my dad's old turntable. Breaking it in right now with R2T. I'm in love!

Ha I would but it was an RSD '14 release that was abut $15 less than what stores were charing in April. I have no idea if they had it in stores or what but when I saw it I gunned for it.

Beatles Mono box is sitting on my doorstep, running home at lunch to bring that sucker inside as it might rain this afternoon. God I cannot wait to listen. Debating if I should go in order or just pick whichever I'm in the mood for to start.

Do what your heart desires. When I listen in order I catch myself not enjoying as much because I'm just waiting for another one to dock.

Finally got a chance to listen to Side A of my new copy of Graceland. Sounds pretty awesome. Diamonds of the Soles of Her Shoes really sparkled. Looking forward to spinning Side B tonight. Homeless is probably my favorite track off the album.

I opened it when I went home for lunch, popped on 'Pepper', and got through the first 4 tracks. Holy shit. It absolutely leaps out of the speakers. The drums in particular sound so ALIVE and lifelike. The little tom-tom fill leading into the 2nd verse of 'With A Little Help From My Friends' when all the other instruments drop out for a moment was just draw dropping.

I can't wait to really dive into all of these.

Can't wait, picking mine up tonight. With very few exceptions even the most nit-picky of vinyl fans on the forums I frequent are head over heels in love with the job Abbey Road did on these.

Grabbed Queen- Live at the Rainbow '74 and the new Interpol album today, along with the Monos of Rubber Soul, Revolver, Srg Peppers, and the White Album. And now the clock ticks by ever so slowly, keeping me from my turntables at home.

Update, the Queen album is ridiculously good! Such a great live band.

I picked up Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers, and the white albm. Havent listened to Revolver yet but the other 3 are amazing. Peppers and white album are just sonically alive in the room, and the more you turn the volume up the better they get. Really crisp and clear. If you have a favorite or two its worth every penny to get a mono copy. I have no complaints.

I'm probably going back to the store tomorrow to get Magical Mystery Tour and the Mono Masters. I'll skip the others as I'm not a huge fan of their early sound.

Bought Rubber Soul and MMT. Love them both. Beyond the quality sonically, I just prefer the mono mixes overall as that is what the Beatles actually helped mix and played a part in. If you read the recording sessions book it's amazing to see that they spent many days and many takes perfecting the mono masters, the stereo ones were done in about a day or two, a real rush job.

Question for anyone who got the Pepper mono release: did they put the "runout groove" at the end of the album by chance? I know it's pointless to add an actual runout groove these days as 99% of all turntables are automatic. But thought it would be a nice nod to the original if they added about 10 seconds at the end of A Day In The Life.

Almost all of the people I know with record players are manual, ha.
I think most of the turntables outside the sub-$250 mark are manual, not putting any of the cost of the table into automated features to keep costs lower.
Didn't check for that yet runout yet.

Went to my record store this afternoon and found two albums I had been watching on eBay. One of them was in the bargain bin. Love when that happens. Almost picked up the newest "Master of Puppets" reissue but wanted to hold off. Haven't heard any reviews about the new pressings and wanted to ensure they're quality.

That's surprising to me. I would have thought that would be a pretty basic feature on a record player to save wear and tear on the needle.

All of the latest Metallica reissues are the same masters as the previous (2008 I think for MoP?) remasters. MoP is worth having but there arent any really great pressings, with the possible exception of the Elektra original which I have not heard. The early Metallica albums were not created with "audiophile quality fidelity" in mind and the recent remasters only help to bring out the less than stellar quality on the master tapes. From what I have heard the disks themselves are pressed nicely, quite background, nice and flat, just not great sound quality because it might not exist.

That said I have both the 33 and 45 rpm reissues from 2008 and I play them proudly because I love MoP! For me its like my old hardcore records, I dont play them for the sonic quality, I play them for the music thats there. I have a copy of the Misfits- Evilive and the sonic quality is completely awful. But, I dont care, it still sounds awesome.

Think the Ikea one still exists they just changed the name of it. They also changed the dimensions of it but only on the outside. I think the complaint is that it makes it more noticeable that you have a bunch of them stacked together instead of it looking like one seamless big shelf.

    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40275813/

Here's a link. This is the cheaper version. They have other configurations. Just search for "Kallax" on their site.

This is really helpful to know. The only Metallica i have is a pressing of Ride the Lightning that sounds just awful. I hadn't chanced buying others but I like your take on it - not looking for audiophile quality in these releases.

Okay cool. Thanks for the feedback. A lot of that makes sense. I'll probably pick up a few of them just because they're great albums and I want them in my collection.

From my experience with Metallica vinyl, which is somewhat extensive as I really like the band, the newer 45rpm reissues all sound as good as you could hope for, Face to Black at 45 rpm is awesome. The first 4, Kill em All through Justice, just dont have the best sound quality and probably never will. With a little EQ work, I roll off the high end a couple of decibles, I've never been dissapointed.

From the black album forward the sound quality gets better, but there is obviously a huge debate about the music quality. The 45 rpm from 2011(?) of S&M is really really good as is the the Garage Inc. Overall, I think the 45 rpm sets sound a little better and some of the 2011 reissues (S&M being one I'm pretty sure) were pressed at Pallas in Germany and are very nice disks. Super quiet, dead flat, nicely centered. If you have any questions about Metallica vinyl just let me know, I have lots of reference material. I have an equation that explains my Metallica vinyl collection: the proper amount to own is n+1 where n= the # of Metallica vinyl I currently own.

But thought it would be a nice nod to the original if they added about 10 seconds at the end of A Day In The Life.

Listened the other day and I'm pretty sure it's there

Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

Was chatting with my girlfriend last night and she commented that I didn't seem to be buying as much vinyl as I was earlier this year. So I ran some numbers and between November and July 4th weekend, I bought 100 albums (I broke 300 in mid-November and bought my 400th on July 5th). So that equates to about 11.1111 records per month. Since July I've bought about 20 albums, which equates to about 6.66667 albums. I guess I should pat myself on the back.
