congrats danica. you now have the record of most top 10s for a female driver....took you 90 races to get your 6 while gunthrie it took 33 races to get 5.

its unfair to compare anybody when they raced in two completely different eras. gunthrie raced in the late 70. racing then was much different than racing today. racing is much more evenly matched today than it was back then, so there are a lot more drivers who can compete on a weekly basis for top 10s. and then add in the amount of elite drivers there are today who are regularly in the top 10, and its a crowded list. back in the 60s and 70s petty was winning double digit races every year. now, winning 5 races in one season is a great season and signs of a championship contender.

and an interesting fact i came across about jeff gordon's dominating 1998 season.


in 33 races that season, he finished on the lead lap 28 times. that season he had 28 top 10 finishes (with 26 of those being top 5s). so basically, if you didn't find a way to put him a lap down or get lucky and have him have some car trouble, he was contending for the win every single week. he also had 13 wins that year, so there was almost a 50% chance of him winning as long as he didn't go a lap down. ri-fucking-diculous.

I can agree with some of that, but I would also argue that what Gunthrie did was even more impressive, considering the lack of technology of the cars during her era.... and she also raced indy cars and the Indy 500, and she also did it amongst a great deal of gender bias.

i was having a good day with 3 drivers in the top 10 until that last round of pit stops. shitty end to the race with just running single file for the last 20 laps. nobody was able to go anywhere.

Dale Jr's post race was very emotional. Having been a fan of this sport since about 1991, being at the 500 that Dale Sr won along with the 500 he died in, and having just lost my Grandma recently.....I have to admit I got pretty emotional myself about it. I have been having a lot of thoughts recently on what my grandma would say about things...and like Jr said about his father..."you can only imagine, and imagining is just not as fun as the real deal." I will probably think about that quote a lot for the rest of my life.

Good qualifying points for a and b. Didn't get a chance to change my c drivers this week. Work has been taking all my time and forgot. (Drivers I wanted to us weren't listed yet)

if any of you guys are ever in denver, go check out furniture row racing's (truex) garage. they give free tours every thursday afternoon. unlike hendrick, gibbs, childress, etc where you barely get to see anything other than maybe get to look down over the garage floor (at gibbs), the tour at FRR puts you on the floor with all the mechanics. i stood about 4 feet away from the car they will be using this weekend at kansas while it was on the scale getting its final prep work done. it was really cool actually being able to get to see all the different parts of the process. tour took about 45 minutes and then they let you walk around the main part of the floor where they have a handful of cars being worked on along with the cars that won a couple races and the trophies. really cool tour, definitely recommend it to anybody interested in nascar or any other type of racing.

kinda disappointed jeff doesn't have the rainbow paint scheme tonight. qualifying was fun to watch tonight. for anybody who missed it, it was 2 full laps plus a pit stop with no speed limit on pit road. so guys were pulling off the track at 155mph coming down pit road and then had to try to stop in their pit stall. some guys just blew right through it. it was entertaining to watch.

Has anyone every watched this documentary? It is about the 1992 Finale at Atlanta. A special day in my memory as it rapped up the first full year of NASCAR I had watched. I was at the 1992 Daytona 500 when Allison won (as well as the 1992 Pocono race where he flipped). Amazing day in NASCAR history.
