    Re: The NFL Draft

Almost forgot why I even made this thread.

What does everyone think about Cam Newton? The guy has a media only workout (who does this?). Being afraid to throw in front of scouts is not a good thing IMO. I think he's a better pro prospect than Tebow, but I still wouldn't want this guy in the 1st two rounds. Someone like Trent Dilfer fell in love with him.

    His comments:

That was phenomenal,” ESPN’s Trent Dilfer reports via Bruce Feldman. “If scouts saw this they’d have been slobbering.”

Tony Pauline of SI.com wrote earlier this week that “at least” six teams rank Newton as their top overall prospect in the draft. It defies belief that six teams even have a “top-ranked” player at this stage, but the note shows that Newton has some serious support within the scouting community. Not to mention with Dilfer.

“His mechanics are so sound,” Dilfer said. “The ball just jumps off his hands. He made 30 big-time throws.”

I swear if the Titans do something stupid like draft Cam Newton, I will have to switch my allegiances to another team.

I think Newton has all the physical tools, but stares down receivers way too much. He got away with it in college, but he will struggle big time in the pros because of it. Now naturally a good coach can get him thru that (John Elway had the same problem in college and early in the pros), but I have serious doubts about Newton's skull based on his decisions and payment plans in college.

I think he's clearly a 1st rd pick, but if he goes to the wrong team, he will flop badly.

Newton is a risk and reward guy. I would be surprised if he went in the top of the first round, but I can see him going late 1st round.

Also, it's not fair to say he is afraid to throw in front of scouts. That work out was in addition to the combine and any other work outs he may do. All in all though it really isn't that big of a deal that he looked good throwing the ball in shorts. We already knew he can throw.

    Re: The NFL Draft

Newton is going to have stellar combine numbers and I wouldn't surprised to see him jump as high as 7 (yes, I feel the 49ers are that dumb). He is a 1st round prospect, but he still needs a lot of work to be pro ready. As for my two teams, the 49ers need a lot of help everywhere. I think secondary is their biggest concern right now and I think they should seriously consider going for McNabb or Kolb in the offseason. Which brings me to the Eagles, they absolutely need to get rid of Kolb. I like the kid and thinks he has the talents to shine if giving the opportunity. However, his opportunity will not be here in Philly. The Eagles need to try and get a 2nd and 3rd for him or maybe a late 1st (but I seriously a team would drop their first for Kolb). My realistic approach to this is the Eagles play hard ball and don't ease up on their demands and are stuck with Kolb or eventually deal him for nothing. They need help everywhere. They essentially need a new defense and to plug holes on the O-line. With how Reid drafts I see it being an offensive lineman in the first round then the next two would be defensive players.

I think Newton has 1st round talent with a high ceiling. His floor just scares me too much. I like more of a sure thing in the 1st round and first half of the 2nd round. So that's why I wouldn't draft him early. He'll probably go in the Top 10. I think the Cards would be a bad fit for him.

You draft Newton on potential. He's really far away from being ready to be an NFL QB. There is so much mental QB stuff that he has never learned that will take him a long time, if ever, to pick up.

Julio reminds me a bit of TO, in the fact that both are big receivers who make mind-numbing drops, and are a lot faster on the field than they are in a 40 time.

AJ Green is still the #1 overall prospect for me, but Julio isn't the usual #2 receiver that goes in the 1st and flops. He's just too big and strong for him to fail miserably.

If the Cardinals don't draft Robert Quinn, I'm going to kill Bidwell.

Agree. More OL help is the number one concern for me. Follow that with some 3-4 down linemen, a couple backers, and maybe an RB/speed guy to potentially return kicks/punts.

I hope we can trade out of the #1 pick. Might be a possibility if theres a new cba....Nobody really blows me away enough to take them at #1, especially when we need help at a few areas..
