Re: The NFL Draft

About to head to the stadium in a bit for the draft thing. Expecting Cam Newton. Wouldn't mind Marcell Dareus, though.

Every QB on the Cardinals' roster is putrid. I don't trust any of these rookie QBs with a 1st round pick, though, let alone #5 overall. Too many stud players to pass on, and too many other holes to remain unfulfilled.

Arizona is far more built for a veteran QB anyway. The lockout has hurt them as much as or more than most teams, as far as rosters go at least. I hate Kevin Kolb, but I'd rather have him than any rookie in this draft. It also doesn't hurt Fitzgerald endorses Kolb.

Exactly. Most teams in the top 5/10 have way, way more holes than just a QB. No point in passing up the opportunity to definitively fill up one of those holes to draft a QB that may or may not be good and definitely will not be worth the money you'd have to spend to get him.

As a Packers fan I know we don't need a lot, but there are a few areas to look at:

Outside LB to play opposite Matthews
A CB to prepare for replacing Woodson
    Improving both line depths
and maybe some RB help so we don't get a repeat of last year

I think the NFL and the WWL realized that they were over saturating us with football. I expect the ratings for tonight to be way down from last year.

I'd really have to look at recent years to be sure about this, but this is the first year I remember where the best players aren't marquee position players. It's hard to sell a CB, LB, & the second most well known DT. People know Newton, but I don't think anyone believes he's the best player. Most don't think he's an NFL QB. Ingram probably won't even get drafted tonight, and he's used in a lot of the marketing I've seen tonight.

I think tonight is the tipping point for the NFL being dominated by QBs. Manning, Brady, and Brees are all on the down side of their careers. It really looks like 5 teams are going to reach and grab a QB tonight, which filters better players to the good teams. Long term, these guys are going to probably get 3 to 4 years to prove they belong, and most teams tend to draft offensive skill players, again reaching, and filtering better players to the good teams.

If I'm in charge of a team, I'm drafting defense and offensive line because the current blue print to win puts a premium on smaller defensive players to counteract the en vogue offense.

Shocking that Hines is cheating on his wife. I thought he had 1 bedroom places on the Southside and Shadyside, so he didn't have to drive home when out.

Just wondering if you've heard of these girls he's cheated on his wife with. There has to be countless ones but figured to share these two anyway.

I know one or two personally. Not the girls you posted, but actual acquaintances of mine. In our advanced age they've moved onto lawyer and banker chasing, but they were part of the groupie scene back in the day.

This is all odd information. I've read multiple sources that stated Ward is divorced, and has been for some time now.

He might be. I really have no idea. The only "good" (won't cheat on his wife) guys I ever heard about were Aaron Smith and Gardocki.

There has to be something more fun about rooting for those teams rather than the Steelers and Pats during the draft. If you are a Bengals, Browns, Raiders, 'Skins, etc. fan you know there is a 75% chance of making some awful franchise altering decision tonight.

He'll probably be gone by then, but Shanahan's last few coaching seasons make him look like a Mike Brown/Al Davis level crazy person. I don't think anything is off the table with him.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if we traded back a few spots.

I think if either of the two I mentioned are there when the 6th pick comes up, we'll stay put (or at least I hope so) and take them. If not, if a player they're targeting can be had at 7-10 and they can add a pick or two, I expect them to do it.

Well you get that every year. This year though, it seems as though it started later and has been toned down quite a bit until the last week.

ESPN keeps showing Rodgers and Quinn having to wait to get picked. Both waited and went opposite directions. Too bad the one the Browns drafted ended up being a bust.

I don't think we'll see anyone in the Top 10 be able to trade back. It just doesn't make financial or draft capital sense to make those moves. There was a rumor in Cincy a few weeks back, that Mike Brown would purposely let the clock run out if Player X and Player Y were both still on the board and not pick until one of them were gone.

Oh trust me dude, they'll find some way to fuck this up. Even though they pretty much can't go wrong at ten, given all the huge whole the team has and how many stud players there will be at that point. They'll figure out some way to just completely fuck it up though. Just not Newton. Not a Shanahan type guy, if the past decade says anything.

Yeah, I think it could be more difficult than normal to trade back this year.

I heard the Sean Taylor pick was ok. How can you forget how great he was?

KC-Gabe Carimi. Or dealing up for Julio Jones
Other options: Akeem Ayers, OT, OLB or NT

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if Mike Brown does it. Hes that cheap.
I don't understand why more teams don't do it. It's something I never really asked anyone who knows how it works about. My guess would be, the Bengals could pick their guy at #15, but the agent would still want him to be paid like #4.

The draft value guide makes trading picks a pain in the ass. Because you don't work in a vacuum you have to make your draft trades a draw.

It might have been done already, but an interesting football research piece might be to examine if it makes sense to pay a premium to another team to take that pick off your hands. Can you imagine the outrage if someone traded their Top 10 pick and a 5th round pick for the 25th pick?

Maybe not illegal but make it so that you have to pay the pick where your original pick was (see below).

The NFL desperately needs a rookie pay scale. Desperately.

KC-Gabe Carimi. Or dealing up for Julio Jones

Truth. Sean Taylor was good . He is also unfortuantely dead. He was really good
