Oh, Defcon. That's just phenomenol. I don't really have any advice to give you. I can understand why someone wouldn't "lead" with that when starting a new relationship.

So is this thread basically where we come and tell sad stories and Tony tells us what's wrong with us?

No, I'm just the Non-Hillbilly New Groton™, who occasionally tries to post helpful advice but apparently ends up being too blunt or ridiculing.

When it comes to dating, people need someone to be blunt with them. Otherwise, why ask for advice?

A2 is a girl I was texting with and we finally met up on Friday. We were supposed to just meet for drinks but that turned into dinner, which then turned in to us shutting the place down. Since then, we've been in fairly regular contact but I haven't heard from her in 24 hours.

I'm a little bit in the same boat. I've been texting with this girl for a couple of weeks and we met up and had dinner last night and shut the place the down as well. I wouldn't read too much into not being contacted in the past 24 hours. Sometimes people aren't near their phones or they just don't feel like texting.

Not to mention, maybe all this texting with only having gone on one date is odd for her and she wants to take it a little slower. That could be the case as well. I'm also terrible at relationship stuff so I may be completely wrong but I don't think one day of non contact is all that big of a deal.

...you're right. Like I said earlier, I went on a date for the first time in 4 years last night and it was a nerve racking experience.

Going on a date with a lady from work (not the one I will be seeing on Friday) after work today. She seems witty, not terribly well read but a certain wit, which will be nice. This is likely going to blow up in my face, but it'll be a lovely addition to the "Trojan Man Sexcapades" (Title is work in progress).

This is the #1 mis-step for guys getting back on the dating scene, especially in the online dating realm.

Over-texting/communicating too soon. You gotta let the girl chase you some of the time too. Otherwise it's too easy for her, or it just comes off over-anxious.

Either way, it's a big turn off, and can turn a success into a "ummm...really? again that quick?" in no time.

Another thing applying specifically to online dating:

Girls (and guys) are talking to more than one person. It's almost always that way. There's a real problem summed up in that "buffet" post I think of Bryan's (UNC41) a few pages back. A girl goes on a date, it might go great, but when she gets home she's got texts from two other guys she's been looking to setup dates with, plus another 30 new messages online from guys she can give a shot to as well.

Online dating lends itself to LOTS of communicating with LOTS of prospects. That's why you can't play it off cool for too long either. Or else someone else will hop in.

I'm currently having that problem as well. My advice to Roger is my advice to myself. We texted back and forth constantly before the date, now afterwards it's almost none. Date seemed to go really well. Both mutually agreed to meet later but my first inclination is to keep texting her since that was a main form of communication.
