Re: Rooftop

After just a few listens this is definitely my least favorite on the album.

    Re: Rooftop

The hook is incredible in this song. "I, I want, want you..." etc. That part is delivered perfectly, and the second half of the song starting at the bridge to close is excellent. Listen to the horns during the end jam. Rashawn lights it up. Awesome.

also, the chorus sounds a bit like i did it. with a hint of so right in there too. crazy how everything this song reminds me of is all from everyday.
This song is what Everyday would have sounded like if SL had produced it (and had driven the band to create both better music and lyrics.)

    its definitely DOOF/Fool to Think.

Fool to Think is one of my favorites so thats good, but i cant stand DOOF and that riff is virtually lifted from that song and thats all i think about when i hear it. this is definitely the one song I am not sure about yet, but i think its done well for what it is. who knows, could end up loving it.

The bridge in this song should have been a chorus for a separate songs. It's so damn catchy/awesome.

So many people are loving this one. I just can't get into the chorus yet. I really like the verses though. I need to listen a few more times before I pass any further judgement.

When the chorus hits I'm all Ready for my Sunday Down with STP and start pounding my head... sidenote: this is a good thing. I LOVE THIS SONG and the rocker feel to it mixed with 'Dreams of our Fathers' driving verse rhythms. Keeping me guessing where it's going on first listens Dave and co. Love it! Happens a lot on this album.

I love the bridge- it's really catchy. But the rest of it sounds too rock, like it's off of Everyday. I've only listened through a few times, so hopefully it'll grow on me. But I'm not wild about this song right now. "I want you to tell me that you want me" is more Nickelback than DMB

mentioned this in another thread, but I would like to see this song transition into Seven live. If you listen to the end chord it could be done quite seamlessly.

Pretty different sound for DMB, the chorus especially. This
one could take some getting used to. That said, the bridge is outstanding

Given its similarities to FTT, i now understand why this was the first song that Jake didn't really like upon the first listen.

So far it's my least favorite... I can dig the verses alright, really not feeling the chorus to this point, and the song just feels a little disjointed.

really enjoying this song right now, repetitive lyrics are all over the album, and i think i can say i like this song better than broken things now. it was between those two for me and it took some listens to decide what i liked more

This song is killer. LOVE it. If Snow Outside is the old DMB we've been waiting for, Rooftop is the peak of the "new" dmb sound.

This is my least favorite song on the album by far. I don't like the 80's rock feel.

I think the bridge is very cool and I'm ok with the verses but the chorus just sounds cheesy to me.

I am not sure what I think of this song yet. I am not sold on it. It feels like it doesn't belong on the album to me because it is so different from all the rest of the tracks. The album as a whole I am in love with though. After I listen a few thousand more times I am sure that my opinions will change a bit. Maybe I will love in a few months.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the lyrics potentially being tied to the Warehouse, the building the band started playing from:

"Standing on the rooftop, all these people watching"

"I take another drink, so I can lose control"

"I, I wanted you to, tell me that you want me"

"You find yourself a sweet spot, and people want to get some"

"If you're going out tonight, maybe I'll catch your eye"

"Maybe we'll lose our minds tonight"

*Great song. Love Rashawn near the end.

I wrote this on the other thread, but I really think this would be a great single for them to put out. This is one of the most rockin tunes they have done, and I think it would do well on the radio. The chorus is very Zeppelin to me, and the bridge is probably my favorite part of the album.
