Not necessarily. What if there are 8 people, and they tip $1 a piece beacuse there food is under $8. If they had one check their bill would be about $64, and I would think they would leave between $10-$12. Sometimes though, the intelligent friends will tip more to make up for their douchebag friends(I've done this many times). I think it just all depends on the type of people you are serving. I split 15 checks once and the tips ranged from $2 to $11, so you never know.
