My little happy story:
My dad did not listen to modern music at all, except some country trash. One day a few years ago, I played him In Between Dreams. He fell in love. Jack Johnson is the only musician he'll listen to, and he loves Jack, and always talks about him as Jack. Whenever I travel for Dave, he tells me I should go to a Jack show instead. Long story short, he really, really loves Jack Johnson.
Jack announced TtS tour, and is playing a show in Phoenix, about two hours away. I bought tickets the minute they went on sale (i snuck a computer into math class, and did my whole ticketmaster deal during a lecture) and pulled 8th row. I decided I would surprise my dad, and take him for his birthday, since it's close, kinda.
The obvious task at hand was figure out how to get him to drive two hours with me, and still keep it a surprise. I devised this plan- I would tell him we're going to a really boring thing that I need to go to for school, and I need a chaperone. So I told him we were going to an economics lecture in Phoenix, and I get extra credit if I go. I'm gonna have him drive, and just direct him towards the venue. I'll see how long it takes for him to figure out that we're at a Jack concert. When he realizes that it's Jack (they might have a marquee out front, or he might figure it out when he sees we're at a concert venue, not a lecture hall. When he does figure it out, I know he's going to be very, very excited. It's gonna be awesome, and I just feel great about doing something nice for him, especially after he's let me go to so many Dave shows.
Anyways, the show is tomorrow, and I can't wait
I did play that Jack CD for my dad because I like Jack so much. Two openers tomorrow- G Love and Zee Avi. First opener at show time, an hour after doors? G Love on around 7:45, Jack on around 8:45? Sound right?
