Do you consider your drug dealer a friend?

I am not asking you as in you personally but more of a hypothetical.

My weed dealer was always a best friend till I stopped smoking weed. But others would probably think we were just acquaintances

Well, maybe I'm misremembering the podcast, but it didn't seem like they just got together when they were going to smoke, that's my point. The one dude said Jay picked him up from practice a lot, Adnan hung out with Jay's gf a lot, they smoked together enough that regardless of an actual friendship, it was still time spent together.

I guess my issue with that is less on the word "friend" and more on just they seemed to write each other off as acquaintances when that doesn't seem to be the case based on other people.

I don't know my best friend's boyfriend that well. I would loan him my car in a second.

I mean I'm sure it was different back then, but even if someone had a phone or not, I don't think I'd ever let anyone borrow my cell phone. just seems like a really weird and shady thing to do

I'd have no problem letting people borrow my phone or my car even. My friends. People I know. Not 'acquaintances' or people I only knew through smoking.

It was definitely different back then.

First off, there was nothing on them back then but phone numbers and maybe Snake. Not like they had access to your email and bank accounts and shit like it is now.

Also, not everyone had them back then. So if someone was going to be by a phone, and someone else wasn't and you were going to need to be in contact with each other, you'd give the person who wasn't going to be by a phone the cell phone.

I think the fact that Jay was dating Adnan's best friend makes it different.

You better have a pretty close relationship with me for me to let you borrow my car, but that's just me. My personal preferences/practices are not evidence on how well Adnan and Jay knew each other (though I still believe it was fairly well.)

Question re: the appeal. I read that the appellate court is going to revisit whether the testimony of that girl who allegedly saw him in the library at the time of the murder should be considered? Is that issue under review?

Depends on how long they'd been dating, I'd say. In my example, my friend has only been dating her boyfriend for a month or two. At this point, I'd still call him an acquaintance. We're definitely not friends.

I haven't read the court's opinion itself but my initial inclination is to say that the court is going to determine whether or not the fact that there was a person claiming to have an alibi for the defendant, who subsequently was ignored by counsel, constitutes ineffective counsel. not the truth or falsehood of the testimony itself but the fact that it was a stone out there that went unturned.

maybe not, but if someone asked if you knew him you wouldn't kinda brush it off and say "eh kinda." you'd say "yeah I know that guy he dates one of my good friends"

One time in high school, I let this kid DJ borrow my car to go to prom. Had only hung out with him like once. He was a friend of a friend. I told him to just put gas in it. He used the change in my ash tray to put the gas in it. What a fucker.

    True story.

Shit like that is probably why I don't have a hard time believing that they weren't really friends.

I feel like you're a total outlier here. When I was in HS, I bought my own car and I didn't let just anyone drive it. I can't comment about a cell phone because those weren't around. Not sure how that would have played out.

Heck, even today I am absolutely done letting people borrow my car. I let my neighbor buy it and he busted the tail light backing it into the alley. If people really need to get somewhere, I'll drive them but no one is driving my car anymore sans I'm too drunk and they're sober. Even then, at least I'd be in my car.

thinking about it now, I don't think I've ever let anyone borrow my car aside from parents. at least I can't think of an occasion off the top of my head

I wouldn't do the high school story at my age now. Just didn't give a shit about my car in high school.

As to the post you quoted, the point is that I would help out my friend's boyfriend if he needed it because I care about my friend.

Exactly. It went from Adnan seeking him out about the GF's birthday gift to Adnan barely knowing him abot 5 episodes in.

For me, I just can't get passed the lack of betrayal he seems to feel for Jay. If I loaned someone my car and phone to get their GF a gift for which I reminded that person they needed and they returned those favors by fingering me in a murder, you bet your ass I'd be pissed at that person, even 15 years later or whatever.

IF he's let it go it's probably for his own sanity. You can let your rage eat you up while you rot in prison with no ability to do anything about it, or you can move on.

If he hasn't let it go, he's probably sticking to the nice guy bit for all the listeners.

If they were asking if I actually know them, like know them as a person (personality, history etc...) , I'd say "not really" or "eh, kinda."

I get that there's nothing he can do to Jay while he's in prison, so to sit there are stew over it every day would drive someone nuts. That being said, you wouldn't even respond by saying "yes, but I'm trying to move forward" or something along those lines? He basically was like "it's cool" and he's serving a life sentence.

My theory is that it's an act. He knows Jay was with him but couldn't implicate Jay since that would implicate him.

Yea, it's gotta be this. It's the only thing that makes sense as to why he never once said "maybe Jay did it." (correct me if I'm wrong and he did say that.) But hasn't it always been "I have no idea who killed her."?

How did this story not get a TV re-enactment on one of the L&O's? Goren and Eames could have solved this bitch in about 42-43 mintes!

I feel like it does have to be that. If you really weren't with Jay and Jay had your car, cell phone, and was able to point out where the car was, woudn't you be telling anyone who would listen to look harder at Jay?

I mean, I don't think it's being a little whiney bitch to tell the cops that you had nothing to do with a murder and that they need to be looking at the person who had your car and phone more closely. I don't care if you're my best friend. I'm not going to prison for life because you strangled your ex. I'm just not.

The only reason it makes sense that it didn't go down that way is because the two were together.
