I think people quickly forget (or were not around to remember) a time not so long ago that there were only a tiny handful of official releases.

For all anyone here knows maybe they had planned on releasing something much newer next but found this and for whatever reason decided to release it. If you'll note, we don't have a full recording of this Watchtower (they seem to be spending some time and effort searching for things that are not out on tape, and they should be commended for that), and there is apparently some pretty interesting Davespeak on the tapes that hopefully gets left in the release. But no one's forcing anyone to buy it. If you're not excited by this release, hold onto your money until you see one that does. Pretty simple.

I think you are spot on here. I think they realize that, even among the hardcores, there are very few people who are actually buying each and every Live Trax just to complete their collection. I'm a huge fan who has been following the band for 15 years, seeing shows for 10 (34 shows), and owns a TON of stuff...but I still only have a handful of the LT's (1, 3, 6, 8, 13, 15, 17) I'll pick the shows that really stick out to me as ones I want and won't buy some others, and I think most people are like this.

If you don't care for a release, don't get it and there will be another one in a few months that maybe you will like more. I personally would like to see '99 get some more love, as well as Winter '98, Winter 2000, and all of '02 and '03.

really? What part of the show did you not like when you listened to it?

not too shabby of a choice. From this specific leg of the tour, i would have gone with 6.11.96

94-95 was when i first started listening to DMB and they were definitely my favorite band by 1996. Usually always glad to hear older stuff and this selection seems like a nice one.

It supposedly comes out 8/31, which is the Tuesday before Gorge. As long as you do the shipping that guarantees release date arrival (or do digital DL) you should have it in plenty of time.

This release looks like a classic DMB show. Tempting to pick up. The band was really on fire at this point in their success

Deifinitely picking this one up. I actually like LT 4 a lot and from what I hear this is a much tighter show. Plus the mixes just keep getting better.

Agreed .I love the 1996-1998 period.I have already pre-ordered this gig.Love the artwork.Great picture. But,I would also like to hear another show or shows, from 2001.We have 1 release from 2001,and I have been told the 2 gigs from Chicago,07.06 and 07.07.2001 were fantastic.I attended the Giants stadium show from 06.11.01.That is the show with the classic Two Step in the rain. That, was a great show and I hope a future release.

I was so excited when I saw the e-mail notification about a new LT... and then I saw that it's another pre-98 show where Dave's voice is too squeaky and the sound of Carter's drums too metallic and shallow... and then I was really disappointed.
I mean, I'd love a "from the vault" release, but that being something like LT 1, 3, 8, etc...
I've been waiting forever for a '99 release... does the pre-98 fanbase consider them THAT bad?? I think Listener Supported is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard!

Dave Matthews Band performed their 14th show at the amphitheater in Virginia Beach on Tuesday night. With the show fresh in our minds, we are pleased to announce that we've selected the VA Beach show from 1996 for the 18th volume of the Live Trax series. This concert was the first show in the States after DMB's tour in Europe. Dave notes how the band is still taking in "this thing that's been going on with us", referring to the success achieved with the release of Crash. Highlights of the 96 show include Too Much, followed by never-before-released in the Live Trax series, "Deed Is Done" into So Much To Say. Carter's intro to #36 is also noteworthy. The VA Beach home state show has long been a summer tradition. We hope you enjoy this fresh release from the archives as much as we do.

    Release date: 8/31/10.
    Hope this helps.

My first thoughts to the release were a little meh, 1996 Crash tour early on is a little stale to me, but after seeing this specific show I think it's a great pick. 'Rain' is such an awesome jam. They have seemed to nail the 96 releases so far.

96 is a good year, as you said still raw but also the year they finally broke through in popularity and really took off. Much thanks to the single, Crash (into me). The year culminated perfectly with their greatest NYE show, and arguably greatest show to date.
