The red wines of Spain right now are in my opinion the most exciting, so many wonderful Reserva's and Gran Reserva's to choose from...usually 60~80% Tempranillo.
I had a wine called 7 VIŅAS RESERVA 2001 from Baron De Ley recently, retails for around CDN$50 per bottle. It uses all 7 of Spain's indigenous grapes, two of which are white. We decanted it for almost 2 hours and then served it with seafood stuffed tenderloin served with potato cakes filled with goat's cheese, potobello mushrooms and bacon and with braised grape tomatoes and asparagus for the veg - it was unbelievably brilliant - I wish I had bought two bottles!!
Here's a pic of the Baron De Ley if you want to try it -

But in the US many wine stores have scored posted, so if that's out of your budget then just browse through and look at wines in the 85~90+ scoring area, looking for Reserva's and Gran Reserva's and give a few a shot. If you like bold flavours and long palates, Spanish Rioja's are for you without the price tag of the Tuscans.
Campo Viejo Gran Rerseva is usually around $18/bottle in the US and is another wonderful Rioja wine, Tempranillo and Granacha I believe are the dominant grapes.
If you haven't tried a decent bottle of Spanish wine, you don't know what you're missing. (D'uh, but you know what I mean)
