Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)

Finally caught up and watched the last 3 episodes. Really great stuff. The HBO team knows how to end an episode. There have been so many great endings. I think my favorite was when Lady Stark rallied her people in the tavern and got them to arrest Tryion the imp.

Do you mean the actress playing her...or what the character is saying/doing?

Oh, well in her defense, things aren't going well. A broken marriage, separation from family, attempted murder of her son, etc...

This is true... I feel like she's a negative drama queen, but life is rough for her character right now.

I've never felt so emotionally involved in a sword fight before the last episode. I really wanted Stark to just destroy that blonde bastard.

This is one reason I really like this series: Most of the characters are not cut and dry, good and evil. Many of the "good" characters have flaws, some major and some just irritating; and many of the "bad" characters have their good and even heroic moments. It makes for a really interesting read/show.

How is this show? Haven't watched any of it yet. How does it compare to the Camelot show on Starz? I know both networks (and shows, for that matter) have a penchant for lots of teh noodz and whatnot, but is one better than the other?

I'm reading the series for about the 4th time (in preparation for the next book coming out) and watching the show. The show is helping me visualize the story in the book. I'm a little upset that Tyrion isn't ugly and that King Robert isn't both fatter and his hair isn't black (this is a pretty major story point in the book). The dialogue has been pretty good so far, they've stuck very closely to the book, and the things that are different have helped clarify things.

As for the Renly/Loras being gay plot point...

Good points. You know, I find myself kind of liking Tyrion Lannister lately, even though he's a "bad" guy. Do you guys think he's behind the attack on the Stark boy? So far there are no hints that he knows what his siblings are up to.

We started watching Camelot and thought it was good, until we started watching Game of Thrones which is way better, imho. Camelot is still ok, just a little cheesy here and there.

In the books I do think many of the characters suspect a "more than friends" relationship between Loras and Renly.

Tyrion and Dany are by far my two favorite characters from the books and now that I have seen a few episodes I think that has carried over well to the screen. In fact, I think I like HBO Tyrion better than the book version. In the books he is made out to be a hideous looking freak.

Tyrion is my absolute favorite character throughout the books. George R.R. Martin, IMO, does a masterful job of crafting his personality with so many layers. He's not a "hero" by any means, but there are many points throughout the series where I find it quite impossible to label him an outright villain.

I've read the books, so I won't ruin the mystery behind the assasination attempt of Bran. Just keep watching, it gets so much better!

Sunday nights at 9 P.M. For those who have HBO but haven't signed up for HBO Go yet, you should do so right away considering that you can watch Episode 7 immediately after Episode 6 airs tomorrow night. For everyone else, I'm sure a torrent will pop up sometime on Monday.

Streaming sites for me, not torrents. But it all amounts to the same thing. I'm glad that people who don't know the books are enjoying the show. I keep wondering how easy the show is to follow, since I already know the story, but it doesn't look like people are having any trouble. But I still think that folks should read the books. Great stuff!
