Re: Gotham (FOX Show)

I enjoyed the show. The scene that bothered me the most was when Gordon and his partner came to the crime scene and young Bruce Wayne was sitting by himself, in an alley, off to the side. There would be someone there the whole time.

Give it half a season to develop. Cant judge a show by its pilot alone

I wouldn't have, aside from Penguin and maybe Catgirl.

None of the rest were integral to the plot of the episode.

I think it's important to remember too that network's want pilot episodes to give a full idea of what's going to happen in the show. According to Vince Gilligan, he said nobody would sign BB because he didn't want the pilot to be a full overview of the show because he wanted it to start a story. So, more than likely, the show will be different from the pilot in terms of villains per episode.

I thought the pilot was ok, despite pretty awful writing for most of the episode. The last couple of scenes were really good.

I didn't even finish it. My fiance and I were so bored watching it. The writing and acting wasn't up to par. Hopefully it gets better for those still watching.

btw, those with proper knowledge of the comics, was Edward Nygma ever really a member of the Gotham PD? I mean it's not that I don't think they CAN change some villain backstories here, I'm just curious of they did in this case.

and I just gotta say, the way Bullock identified the other 2 detectives when they walked in the diner, that just totally cracked me up, it was so blatant. I was expecting him to follow it with "ahh welcome, MCU detectives Name X and Name Y. What brings you here to the Name Z Diner here on 555 10th Ave, at 7pm?"

If he ever was, it certainly isn't canon for his character. Would have existed in some side story, but I've never heard of it. With that said, I didn't mind that change in story to get one of the future villains working for Gotham PD.

I think the easiest tie in would have been to have Jonathan Crane working for the PD as the quack psychologist that provides help for Gordon to understand the loonies they try to collar. Eventually, in future seasons, he becomes one of those criminals himself. Still plenty of room for that to happen though.

And yes, that line of dialogue in the diner was the first giant eye roll of the episode. It was BAD.

Jim Gordon working to clean up GCPD while we get a mixture of short/long form storytelling with different mobsters/villains sounds like a good show. I have no idea if following kid Bruce Wayne, kid Catwoman, kid Ivy will be any good. And the *wink*wink* nature of The Riddler and The Penguin (and possibly The Joker) didn't come off well.

I think the cast is pretty strong and I'll watch the whole first season no matter what.

Another thing is that i could see them easily jumping ahead in the future from season to season as a means to progress the story lines which eventually culminate in Bruce donning the cape and cowl.

While I thought the acting wasn't the best in this pilot, I enjoyed the show and am hopeful that it will improve. One point I'm now confused on, is that I'm realizing there might be two Barbara's. One is Jim Gordan's wife and the other his daughter. Is that right?

Yeah, Jim really likes the name Barbara. Their daughter is who eventually becomes Batgirl/Oracle.

I really don't think we'll be seeing Batman. Especially with the fact that they're just about to unveil a brand new Batman in the movies. Maybe the series will end with him dawning the cape and cowl, but that will be about it.

That was what I was trying to say. Much like Smallville, I am just assuming that if Batman shows up, it will be in the finale/final episodes of the show.

yea they already pretty clearly said they envision the very final episode/shot being Bruce putting the suit on. Even at the crunch of lower ratings after a couple years, they'd make themselves look like real asses if they went THAT much back on that.

It sucks though, I wish they would have went one more season so we could have seen him as Superman instead of "The Blur".

I mean I know it can be difficult to establish certain things at the start, but talented people can pull it off with you barely even noticing. Granted, they even things out quite a bit by the end, so I'll happily watch the next couple of episodes, but it was a rough time getting there.

And I'd heard that most of the future villains would be obvious but that they'd lay out a few red herrings of who would turn out to be the Joker. But that scene of watching Mooney auditioning the stand up comic, it's like I know they THINK they were doing something sly there, but I felt like it was pounded over my head with a hammer. It was like "hey ya see, he's really funny, he's making Fish Mooney laugh (and luckily they have her straight out tell us that), why... you could almost call him a JOKE-r!!" oye vay.
Having Cobblepot literally walk like a penguin as Gordon is leading him to the edge of the dock? please tell me they're going to at least try to be more subtle.
    gotta agree with this.

a lot of this episode was cheesy, i'll stick around for a few more episodes to see if it turns around. lol the dialogue is so bad. That back alley scene was terrible.

That has been confirmed by the show runner. If they have a full series run the series finale will be Bruce putting on the suit.

Has there been any inclination as to how long the series will be? Bruce is wicked young right now so, unless they jump ahead a year or two every once in awhile, or they have a long run Bruce would be becoming Batman at like 18. Is always been my impression Bruce becomes Batman in his late 20's. In Batman Begins he turns 30 right as he's becoming Batman.

Yeah, Bruce's age when he becomes Batman varies slightly in the comics. I want to say he was 25 in Frank Miller's Year One. It's usually mid to late 20's he finally puts on the cowl for the first time.

New trailer. Interesting pull with Professor Pyg - he was in the Batman and Robin series (where Dick put on the cowl and Damien Wayne became Robin).

    Re: Gotham (FOX Show)

Not a bad second episode by any means, but the action is realllyyy lacking in the first two episodes. The dialogue isn't nearly good enough to float a majority of the episode.

Good reference to the Dollmaker tonight. Wonder if that'll be an over-arching storyline this season or if it was a vague reference to give the "villains" from this episode a purpose. If he does show up, it would be interesting if it was the same Dollmaker from Arrow, which I thought was very well done.

I would love it if Arnold Wesker was in this show at one point.

    Re: Gotham (FOX Show)

Better episode, more focused. Still some forced dialogue in there, but much better than the pilot. Thought Lili Taylor did a good job as the child snatcher. Carol Kane was also excellent casting as Oswald's mother.

At the moment, I think Cobblepot and Falcone are shaping up to be the most interesting characters.

The Bruce stuff at the moment still seems a bit forced and unnecessary. It's hard to think that this kid would be acting the way he is after witnessing his parents being murdered. Just seems like a way to keep Batman somehow tied to the storyline even if its completely shoehorned in there. I did like the idea of Bruce making efforts to help the orphaned children of Gotham, which one would think will eventually result in establishing the Wayne Children's home.
