Granted there have been few select songs on each album since then that are good, there have been 3, I repeat 3 albums since that album, that have lacked the lyrics of the Lillywhite Sessions. Why do people go into this album even expecting lyrical genius? It's almost just stupid, at this point. I went into this album hoping to hear a well produced album, that brought out the best in each musician, I think AFTW did exactly that. It just gets tiresome to hear people bitch about lyrics still, it's been a decade! Move on already. It would be like a Michael Jordan fan still bitching he can't dunk from the free throw line anymore. Well no shit sherlock, he hasn't done it in a decade, why would it change now?

I'm expecting Dave to put the same effort he puts in to all the other aspect of his music (riffs, rhythms, melody). IMO, outside of a handful of lines, his writing's gotten sloppy. As others have mentioned he heavily relies on finishing his lines with "me", "you" and "baby". I would gladly place the blame on age if he weren't able to write well on his other recent outings. Shotgun, Idea of You, Beach Ball, Kill the King, Little Red Bird, Squirm. Some of these don't have "set" lyrics but that doesn't detract from the creativity of the ones provided. Also I realize some don't like the other musical aspects of these songs but this is purely my discussion on their lyrical stability. Dave can do better. That's why I expect it
