Excuse my ignorance, what's the difference between Live Trax and DMBLive?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but DMBLive is a release in which the original mix isn't mastered? Usually due to something missing I think. Live Trax is a mastered version of the original mix and therefore sounds better (usually). I'm not keen on the technicals of recordings, but thats what I've read in the past on here along those lines.

Pretty much this... also Live Trax has a multi track recording (allowing for mixing of each instrument) whereas DMBLive does not.

Wasn't one of the recent DMBLive releases a multi-track release? I may be wrong, but I thought there was one.

Live Trax also has a physical release. DMBLive does not.

I think it was the other way around... there's been a couple of shows from the 'multi-track' era that were released as DMBLive. 11/30/98 comes to mind...

LT releases are mixed from a multi-tracked master, meaning they can mix each instrument individually. DMBLive releases are usually a recording of the board mix.

Some multi-track recordings have been damaged but they still have the board mix so those shows are released as DMBLive. I've also heard that the Duke 95 show is a mix of both the multi-track and board.

Correct, multis were either missing or some tracks damaged.

The multitracks for DMB shows these days potentially result in 53 mono 24/96 files being archived, for 150 minutes+ worth of music that's a lot of storage.

I expect it's most likely a single channel mix of all the clip/IEM mics.

That is a good thing thank you for the information. I look forward to the next one. Let's get to LT 6, so we can get to LT 7.

Any idea if they will continue chronologically? Part of me hopes they just start jumping around and picking gems from the series. Not to downgrade any of the LT because they are all great, but you all know what I mean.

I hope they jump around and we get LT7, but to the best of my knowledge the plan is still completely up in the air at the moment.

At least it isn't a dead vinyl series (for now). Thank you.

Nay. Live At Sweet Briar College was once sold in the Sweet Briar College bookstore. It’s how I bought my copy rather than pay musictoday exorbitant shipping and handling fee.

Would a 15th Year Anniversary "Some Devil" vinyl release be out of the question this year?

Or would that fall in line with the order of DMB vinyl releases?

I wouldn't say it's out of the question, but I haven't heard any news on that one. I'd assume they'd keep plugging away with 20th anniversary schedules in the near term. BTCS, then Everyday, then Busted Stuff, then SD.

At some point I'd love to see a big studio box set.

Re: DMB Record Store Day 2017 (4/22/17)

To piggy-back off of SD's 15th Anniversary it will also be the 15th Anniversary of the Central Park concert.

Live at Luther College was released earlier than it's 20th Anniversary. (Maybe non-DMB albums have their own time table.)

I'm sure someone has already done this on here (or elsewhere on this site) but if we're going with 20th Anniversary releases here is what came out between 1998-2008.

    BTCS - 1998
    Listener Supported - 1999
    Everyday -2001
    Live in Chicago - 2001
    Busted Stuff - 2002
Live at Folsom Field - 2002
    Some Devil - 2003
The Central Park Concert - 2003
    The Gorge - 2004
    Stand Up - 2005
Weekend on the Rocks - 2005
Live at Radio City - 2007
Live at Piedmont Park - 2007
Live at Mile High - 2008

Plenty of stuff that can be put out. Do we think that they would put out a lot of later stuff? Are shows like Piedmont and Mile High as coveted as something like Live at Luther or Red Rocks?

2019 and 2020 would be "lite" years for vinyl releases unless they bumped up some releases. I wouldn't expect a studio album to be released earlier than it's anniversary (eg putting out Everyday in 2020)

Central Park needs a Blu-ray release, very little work involved in this one outside of some artwork, authoring and replication.

The multitracks for DMB shows these days potentially result in 53 mono 24/96 files being archived, for 150 minutes+ worth of music that's a lot of storage.

The audio geek in me is nerding out that I haven't really thought about how many tracks are being recorded at a show. Obviously the amount makes sense, but it is still crazy to think of the technical logistics of archiving all of those feeds. Im curious just how much data is ingested for a single show in gigs (or i guess TBs).

Id love to see a behind the scenes tech video of how a show is setup (in detail) for a gig.

Ive sat behind the soundboard and the video board a couple times, and its well worth the experience. Especially the video board, Fenton is a complete stud.
