The Apple Thread - Gather round.

I’m having a weird problem with my Mac. This is the laptop I have:

macOS Sierra 10.12.4 / MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2016, Touchbar)

I have an empty folder in my trash can. I renamed it to empty folder for the video I link below. When I empty the trash, the item comes back a few seconds later. When I try to “Delete Immediately” from within the trash can, the same thing happens. I can’t empty my trash, the empty folder keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

This is going to be a stupid question Chad but did you have anything in that folder that might still be in use? I realize that it appears empty at the moment, but did you have anything in there that might still be getting touched by the OS or an app?

I'm sure you've already thought of that but figured I'd take a few seconds to write it just in case.

Nope, it was a folder I was keeping PDFs that I used for a research paper. When I moved it to the trash and emptied the trash, all the stuff in the folder got deleted, but the folder itself kept coming back.

Rename it then delete it maybe? Or move it out of trash, change it around, then delete?

Stuff like this drives me crazy too.

Tried that, moving it out, renaming it, re deleting it, re emptying. Nothing, keeps coming back. It's an empty folder so it's not taking space, I just don't like seeing trash in my trash bin. Its annoying to me for some reason

What are the permissions on the folder?

Admin has read & write privileges, so I should be able to delete it.

I just ended up giving up and renaming the folder something I would need in the coming weeks and threw it on my desktop.

My iPhone is acting crazy. It will literally do stuff on its own, like opening random apps. I know its almost completely out of storage. Could that be what's causing my phone to "freak out" for lack of a better term?

I have the AirPods and love them. Probably one of my favorite purchases in a long time. If the regular buds fit you, then you won't have a problem at all with the AirPods.

my apple watch series 2 is having a ton of trouble with the nike+ app, which is disappointing as that's one of the main reasons I bought it. it constantly ends workouts in the app while I'm still working out, and the heart rate monitor is shitting the bed too. sucks.

If apple earbuds fit you then you will absolutely love them. They are fantastic. If they don't fit, you're more than welcome to try the AirPods because they fit better than earbuds, but they may not work for you. They're just not made for everyone.

This is an issue with the Nike app. There are tons of complaints out there about it. Prior to the release of the Nike Apple Watch, the Nike app that existed sucked too. It's really unfortunate.

Even the larger one seemed like a toy on my wrist and it was tough to get fine touches with my big fingers. Just my impressions from the short time I played with mine. I'm basically an ape though.

If I were to buy an older iMac, just like maybe a few models old, do you think there would be any issues running Final Cut Pro on it? I would run it on my MBP, but I don't have the memory, and I like editing on a much bigger screen. I suppose I could just get another hard drive though and save some cash instead.

I'm sorry. I have to use an iPad on my job. When I'm typing a word, and it predicts it, when I go to click (point to) on the word in the field, it does nothing. Not intuitive at all because pretty much every Android product I've used does this. No, you have to go back to the keyboard, which you have to bring up on screen, AGAIN, and then put the cursor at the end of the word, AGAIN, and wait for the word to pop up AGAIN, and then hit enter. Am I missing something here?

My attitude with Apple products is and always has been this: Why should I pay considerably more for, at best, a comparable product, when Android is usually cheaper and gets the job done as well, and I'd argue, with more logic and less form factor? Sure, Apple shit looks good, and for the most part, it has a good physical and software form factor...but so does Android with their higher quality products, as well. So why, again, should I pay way more for Apple? *crickets* That's what I thought. It's like buying a Lexus instead of a Toyota, just a little more flourishes but basically the same under the hood. Apple may claim to have superior hardware and a superior OS...sorry, I don't see it.

as far as computers goes, i choose mac all the way. The OS is far more superior.

Anytime i want to use a PC i want to throw it across the room. I will admit iPads are useless though.

I have no idea what you're talking about with your issue. Are you using Predictive Type or autocorrect where you're seeing this problem? Neither of those have ever not worked once I click the word that pops up on iPhone or iPad. Either you're not tapping it somehow, or you have an issue within the OS or hardware that is not functioning correctly. That is not how it works normally

Which iPad and which iOS are you running?

They all look alike now. Wait till the new iPhone with no home button comes out. You could put the Pixel, iPhone and Galaxy S8 on a table and not be able to tell the difference from a distance.

Which iPad and which iOS are you running?

I'm guessing it's predictive type. When I type part of a word, a suggestion comes up in a field next to the word (to the right) in a box. There's a small X next to the word. When I go to tap on the word, to select it, which, to me, is the intuitive thing to do, it does nothing. I do have large fingers, and I'm guessing since I do that's causing the problem. Now, when I hit the return key on the on screen keyboard, it selects and inputs the word. Just seems circuitous and counter-intuitive. Not sure what OS or iPad it is, we use it for facilities management at work. What I do know is that if you update the OS, it makes the program we use completely unusable and we have to basically roll back the update.

Oh ok now I get it. That's autocorrect actually. To allow that to do it's job you simply hit the space key as soon as the word pops up and it corrects your word to whatever popped up. If you don't want that word keep typing or do what you're doing now and just tap it to make it go away.

my 2010 macbook is telling me that storage is running low, so I ran some application that's like manage storage or something

it is running through all my various files to tell me what each is taking up

"iOS Files" are taking up 111 GIGAbites on my computer. what the hell? what can I do about that? seems p ridiculous
