Show tonight in Pittsburgh, doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7:30. What time will Damien be taking the stage?

Saw him last night in Brooklyn with the same times. Josh Ritter was the opener (not sure if he is tonight).

Josh took the stage just after 7:30, Damien came on after 8:30 (I want to say 8:45?). He finished at 10:30.

He was amazing though. I've been a fan, but my wife is a bigger fan. He absolutely blew me away. I've seen a bunch of solo acts before (Dave, Eddie Vedder, Glen Hansard, Ray LaMontagne etc.) and he ranks high up on the list of solo shows I've seen.

Show tonight totally blew my mind. I was a bit skeptical of just Damien without a band, but he filled the room wonderfully. Just total perfection (except for the drunk asshole who sang incredibly off-key directly into my ear during 9 Crimes. At a Damien Rice show? Really?!! Luckily his girlfriend escorted him away after that.)

Yeah, that's not fair. We had an opening act from eastern Europe or something. It was a little...bizarre.

Forgot to mentioned. I bought myself some tickets for Red Rocks. First time seeing Damien, first time at Red Rocks. Beyond excited. Bucket list obliterated.

So here's what I'm wondering...How will Damien be solo in bigger venues like Red Rocks? I'm seeing him in a bigger venue too, and I wonder if the size of venue might drown him out considering he's playing alone.

Saw him in an small venue years ago with a band, and part of what made the show so good was the intimate nature.

I'm really looking forward to a completely silent crowd of a few thousand as his voice and solo guitar reverberate off the rock amphitheater walls. I picture it as nothing short of spectacular.

Though yes, a small room where you can see the eyes of the farthest guy back would be ideal.

Has anyone seen a show this year without an opener? What time did Damien go on stage in that case?

And if you had an opener, was it josh Ritter, the weird European band mentioned, or someone else?

Last night at Red Rocks...absolutely incredible experience. Sam Beam opened, solo. Third time seeing Sam by himself. The venue was perfect for him.

Damien solo was just awesome as well. The venue was very accommodating to him as a solo act. Even stepped away from mic for a part of Blowers Daughter, going completely unplugged.

You should hit up Mason (bonesmcgee) for a beer. He'll be there. Good DMB fan, and HUUUUUGE Damien Rice fan. Dude was just front row at Red Rocks for his last show.

We had a choice of 10th row Damien at Red Rocks or 2 nights at Alpine for Phish. I think we chose correctly.

Damien posted a studio version of "Back to Her Man" on YouTube as the song is inspired by Leonard Cohen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=w6PATsUv_BU

What's the best website to use for getting a quality rip of this?

God I forgot how good last fall's shows were. The compositions he did with his own looping vocals were beautiful.

Ya it's from around 2012. The Box is the only song that survived that period (people were calling it Wild and Free back then).

When he was doing it live he had people practice the chorus like he does Volcando before he starts. There's a studio quality version from a BBC radio show, and someone mixed it with a live recording of the audience:

db.etree.org & dimeadozen.org have a lot of Damien shows. Also eskimofriends.com is a good reference. Some shows can be found in the forums or requested.

O is coming out on vinyl March 2nd, for those that are interested. The original release date was December 15th, so some people actually received it before the last minute delay.

We knew about it because of this: https://instagram.com/p/BaChKDCAb1V/

Some people already have it in Europe. They posted pics in the Eskimo Friends Facebook group. One person who spoke to the label was given that date. I’m not sure who runs Discogs but they have that date as well: https://www.discogs.com/Damien-Rice-O/release/11293982

I remember back when he was doing press for MFFF he was constantly getting questioned about how long of a hiatus he took and him saying during that time he was in a very different head space, even questioned himself if he'd ever make another record. The fallout with Lisa fucked him up in the head.

But that after making MFFF he was in a much better place and was enjoying the creative process again and was looking forward to getting back in the studio again soon to do more recording. I read a couple different quotes actually from him on this subject. from the way he was talking back then I honestly thought we'd have another record from him by now. But better now than never (now if he'd just give us more tour dates here in the states other than once every 5 yrs I'd be a happy camper)

    Italy and Spain tour announced

this tour—travelling from concert to concert on an old wooden sailboat—is a dream that has been percolating under a dusty lid for over 10 years. all that mesmerising movement of sails and ropes and waves gives me the feeling of being carried into the elements on the back of a giant, mythical sea creature. it's a place i feel deeply vulnerable, and immensely free - damien

such a damien rice thing to do
