Re: Official Phish Discussion
The pit was just a blast last night. I found a little clan to groove with and we danced our asses off from start to finish. So glad I made the trip. I can see how people are going to like night 1 better, and I get it, but I still had a fantastic time last night and there were some great highlights.
I love Runaway Jim and Undermind, so the show started out great for me. Would've liked to see Jim do a bit more, but it was a fun turn all the same.
Obviously Tweezer and Carini killed. I was scared after getting the shortest Tweezer ever last summer that I'd get a limp one again, but man, it really killed. Fastest 26 minutes of the night for me; it was a fantastic ride.
I was a little "eh" when Number Line hit, but man, that song picked up some serious steam in the outro and the pit was all in singing that outro. It was honestly a cool fanbase moment. Similar to Blaze On in that sense. Singing along in the crowd makes those songs better than they are on their own. Gotta love how many people in a Phish crowd can sing along to a new song that just debuted 10 days ago or so.
Another thing I'll say is that Trey is definitely picking up his game the last couple shows. Listening to the first 4-5 shows, there were a bit too many examples of Trey completely flubbing parts, even on mainstays like Chalk Dust Torture. He was a lot tighter in Atlanta, and to me that was the one missing piece from what I've heard so far this tour. Things are really coming together now.
The thing I always try to keep in mind at this point in my life is that while I may not dig some songs that get played as much as others, if you just stay in the moment and don't let stats and preferences cloud the experience much, you're going to have a great time at a show. So I had a phenomenally great time last night, even during the songs that don't do as much for me. Going to definitely do what I can to hit the Raleigh show at this point, and then catch a plane for DC the next morning to do two nights in Columbia.
