I've only been out to the gorge once, for the caravan in 2011, but my buddy and I had a similar reaction to it after being used to alpine. In terms of stunning scenary, camping three nights under the stars, and all the other cliche's that go with the place, its great. Crowd doesn't even compare to any show in the midwest, not just alpine. Its a VERY laid-back, chill atmosphere...from how I remember it, crowd did not sing along AT ALL, good portion of the lawn sat for the show. I get "taking in the scenary" and all that, but a passive audience is just not fun for me going to a concert. Alpine is a whole different animal in terms of crowd engagement and active participation, and the band feels it for sure. Only place that still gets good sets consistently, for a reason. We work for it
