I'll have to keep my eye out for that one, given my love of hop bomb west coast IPA/DIPAs.

World Wide Stout this evening. I've had one sitting in my cellar for a year now, tonight just seems like the night to drink it for some reason.

Enjoy Pizza Port night at my local tavern. Tried numerous types of Pizza Port beers with my favorite of the night being their Parable Pale Ale. One of the best pale ales I have had to date.

Need to throw out my thanks to scottbtdmb as well for the beer trade. Thanks for setting that up. About to enjoy the Imperial Wheat Beer tonight.

Glad you like the Deschutes Black Butte Porte as well. Definitely one of their best.

The holidays are approaching. Nothing better than pigging out on turkey day, then topping it off with some good brews. Especially if you're eating with the in-laws.

This brings up a great topic of discussion. What is everyone planning to drink on Thanksgiving? I am still trying to decide whether or not to go the traditional way of having a Saison with the meal or to try something new and have a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. With dessert I may do a pumpkin ale or go for an Imperial Stout. If anyone is interested, BA has a nice article on pairing beers with Thanksgiving. http://beeradvocate.com/articles/240

I'm either going to go with Troegs Mad Elf or a good stout. I might save the Mad Elf for Christmas time though.

I was just at Trader Joe's and a lady asked me what she should serve with Thanksgiving dinner, she also said that her husband likes SN. I recommended the Celebration Ale, which they just got in stock.

    Re: Favorite beer of choice?

I am hearing more and more people on BA claiming that Rochefort 8 goes unbelievably well with Thanksgiving dinner so I think I am going to give it a shot. I really don't like Saisons a whole bunch so even though they are supposed to compliment Thanksgiving food well, I am going to go with the 8 because I like it to begin with. For dessert, I think I may have to go with St. Bernadus Christmas Ale because it is supposed to be sweet and a little spicy, which would work well with pumpkin pie. Beeradvocate does say that with dessert though, you should pick a beer that is sweeter than the dessert you are serving so I may do a trial run with the Bernadus. The Framboise that tessc mentioned would be good with dessert and I am certain that Brooklyn Black Chocolate or Ten Fidy would also work well. This should be a fun trial and error! Also, forgot to mention, but I eat two Thanksgiving dinners, one with my fam and one with my gf's fam. I may pick two totally different beer lineups for each meal and see which one will work better. Will be an interesting and most intoxicating experiment :-)

I think (and I'm not trying to be offensive to anyone) that Blue Moon is one of those beers that people who don't know anything at all about beer seem to enjoy. They've gotten past Miller/Bud/Coors stage and saw Blue Moon on tap at their local bar or at their grocery and decide to "step up".

Oh, and chicks. Chicks dig Blue Moon.

If you have to have fruit in your beer to make it better, I don't think it can be that good. A good beer should just beer (IMO, of course).

Exactly. Leave the fruit (whether it's fruit flavors or a piece of fruit physically floating around) the hell out of beer. I want water, grain, hops, and yeast. That's it.

It's funny, I've been home brewing for a little while now and over 50% of the newbies who post on one of the forums I frequent (www.homebrewtalk.com) ask about how to put fruit in beer. It's appalling. Leave that shit out, brew some REAL beer.

I mostly agree with that sentiment--especially with fruit.

But I do like some stouts brewed with chocolate or coffee, and some pumpkin ales, so I'm not totally opposed to things beyond the 4 components.

No, I mean when people have to put an actual fruit in their beer (ie lime in Corona or orange in Blue Moon), it's not a good beer because it is missing something.

    St. Bernardus Christmas Ale
    Urthel Hibernus Quentem Tripel
    Three Floyds Alpha Klaus
    Great Lakes Christmas Ale
    Treblehook Limited Release Barleywine
    Bear Republic Black Stout
    Reaper Ale Deathly Pale Ale
New Holland Cabin Fever Brown Ale
Looks pretty solid man. The only ones I would suggest that you add to that are Corsendonk's Christmas Ale and the Samichlaus if you can find it. As a matter of fact, some dude on ebay is selling 2006 Samichlaus' for 9.99 a bottle. It is worth checking into. He lists that he has over 10 available!
