Chula Vista 9/05/14 Jimi Thing Encore Closer

I stayed up late here on the east coast watching the set list just tumble further down the rabbit hole...When i saw Drunken Soldier pop up in the "LL" now famed 2014 spot I knew that things were only going to get worse. How much worse? I honestly feel anyone and everyone's pain when I saw that Jimi Thing in the encore 3 slot. My heart sank and went out to the fans in and around San Diego. Can anyone else empathize with and for the fellow fans out San Diego aka "A Whale's Vagina"?

Jimi is a very fun song live. But it shouldn't close shows.

A Sister/Jimi Thing combo could potentially be a new low...Picture it if you will...If they lost both of those songs forever it would be great in my opinion.

An overplayed classic is far better than a really poor sounding new tune.

This is probably the first time ever that I would be let down if they announced a fall tour. They really need a break.

It was actually awesome. It gave the chance for all the fellas to solo before the night ended. They tore it up all night. Super solid.

I'd be let down too honestly, because they'd surely come to Cville and I'd be forced into seriously contemplating two more shows. It feels weird to say it, but I really hope they stay away. And I think they will

I'd be dissapointment if they didn't tour, but what do ya'll think if they took next year completely off from doing shows and worked hard on some of their rarities and refreshed their entire catalog with practice and studio work and came back with a vengeance in 2016 and did a monster tour for their 25th yr as a band? I think a complete year away from touring may refresh them and encourage their creativity, both in practicing their entire catalog, particularly deep cuts like dreaming tree and in creating new music.

Maybe you need the break. Take some time off from set list watching, tours and chat rooms. If you decide to go back in a few years, it'll probably be really refreshing and fun again.

Jimi Thing would be fucking awesome if it had that Dave solo type outro again.. I don't mind seeing it at a show but I really, really love the 13 min versions from the earlier years. It would do the song so good to just revisit that

If this is the only crap you have to worry about when you weren't even attending the show then I hope I come back as you in my next life.

Jimi is just as much a beer/piss break for me as the next person, but that encore could have been much worse. It still beats sitting at home in your mom's basement yelling at her for more meatloaf.

Agree with this 100%. Who are we to say what "we think" the band needs to do/not do? Sometimes it sounds like people think they are directly connected to each band mambers inner thoughts, which is hilarious.

The shows I went to were fantastic this summer. Does Boyd suck? Yes he does, and it's made more obvious because of the fantastic talent around him. Outside of that maybe the setlists became stale, but only to the people who go to 5-10+ shows a year. If you take any one show on its face without looking at past or future setlists, I think you would have a great time.

Let's see what they decide to do in the fall. Should be exciting.

    This.

Thread after thread, most of the people are just complaining about what DMB has come to be in the latter years. Geez, take a break.

Jimi Thing is a top tier Big 3 song. The hate for it says more about the current state of DMB fans that it does anything else.

Jimi thing is a great song, and I think most fans would agree. The fact that it turned into a 15 minute lackluster shell of its former glory is what is unfortunate. Singing a sexy motherfucker outro for 5 minutes every time you play the song brings it down about 10 notches. They played it at the gorge without it and it was very enjoyable. Bring it back acoustically with a WWBOM and I guarantee it'll be loved again.
