And yes, even though they are considered strong contenders this year they still have to get past the fact that they are the lovable losers. People will count them out because of their history no matter how good they are on paper.

Sure, people will count them out because they're the Cubs but Vegas has them at a 4-1 favorite to win the World Series. At first everyone would be like, "Wow the Cubs finally won!" but when then hangover is over you look back and say, "no shit they won, they were stacked."
Royals did it with a smaller payroll and a different approach to the game. That's why based on the actual game of baseball it's a bigger deal. In the media and America sports culture in general, sure the Cubs winning is a bigger deal but that's not the real story most of the time.
