Re: *** Official Orange Beach, AL Thread ***
I live in Perdido Key, just a few minutes down from the Wharf, on the Florida line. Soooo glad Dave is coming back down our way! The Wharf is a good venue, not a bad seat anywhere, but it is a HOT, STICKY bowl... As stated earlier, wear as little as possible, ice down a bandana and you'll survive... The Florabama is our honkytonk roadhouse and always has a $5 shuttle to and from Wharf concerts. You can park at the 'Bama and ride...always party people and to end up after the show at the 'Bama is a nice way to top off the nite. Get a Bushwacker while there, they make the best...think adult chocolate shake with shit tons of rum... There's a local rag called the Mullet Wrapper that is also online telling what bands are playing around. There is a Holiday Inn Express in OBA (Orange Beach, Al), on the beach and near some fun bars and restaurants where you can walk everywhere. FAIR WARNING: Orange Beach cops are notorious a**holes and if you drink and drive, it wont be pretty;hence the Bama party bus idea. There is also a Ride for $5 taxi/van servicing the OBA, FLA beach area. Us locals know the drill...You will be in the height of our season, sooooo here's a few tips... If you like the touristy traffic scene, highway 59, going inandout of Gulf Shores is your place...shopping, chain eats, seafood places on every corner...kids. A little more laid back is the West Beach, Al area. Then going east is Orange beach, a little less crowded, cooler restaurants... And a huge camping area at the state park, for the brave. Check out Happy Harbor on Marina rd. They have great food\music-The Revivalists, Trombone Shorty, Grayson Capps have played there.. If you continue further east into the Florida side, from the Bama on, there are cool local bars tucked away here and there, and no traffic. Google Hub Staceys and Fishermans Corner for the best food/local music scene (local faves). Theres another Happy Harbor across from the Bama, on the water. Cheap eats, music. The rooms are more scarce, on the Key, no motels, but if you start by looking for rooms and book thru the Perdido Key chamber of commerce, they have incentive programs (thanx to those folks that laid the oil spill on us, BP $) all thru the year, where they find condo rooms for you and often provide $50- 100 VISA gift cards for each nite of your stay... Ask for Tina Morrison, tell her I (Susan Hill) sent you her way, she's a friend and cool person. So, then, if you venture on into Pensacola, downtown is the hipster place to hang, a great venue called Vinyl has good music, national and localish bands...such as G. love, JJ Grey & Mofro, Unknown Hinson, etc. Lots of bars and again an ECAT bus that goes from downtown to the Bama in Perdido Key. So, come on down to our sugah white sands yall, and we shall dance together, hani, hani...:-)
