Lost dental filling.

I just had a part of a filling break off my tooth, anyone ever had that happen to them? How long can you wait before going to the dentist? I don't currently have a regular dentist so before I go somewhere I wanted to ask some family members for references which is why I am not sprinting to one, not to mention I am stuck at work. In the mean time, how long can I safely let this go until I make a decision which dentist to call my own? It doesn't hurt, which is strange, but I have a feeling if any more came out it would. Any tips?

It's natural. I had a filling when I was a bit younger, and within the last couple of years it came loose...apparently fillings have a tendancy to loosen up over time, sometimes they crack or chips due to normal wear and tear...

I went into the doc about a week later, and he fixed it for me.

its ok until you make it to your dentist. you can go to a drug store and buy orthodontic wax to cover it until you get there, if it starts bothering you.

Another question: How much does a filling roughly cost? I've never had to pay for one myself because it was always under my parent's insurance and they paid for whatever it was.

i THINK most insurance companies will pay for basic stuff like cleaning and fillings, Nick. I think?

Edit: The average cost of a filling is probably around 200 bucks a tooth. To replace a filling might be a little cheaper.

I was always under the impression it'll cover the preventitive stuff but not work like fillings and such.

yeah, that's right, but lots of insurance companies will cover, say, 100% of preventative, 75% of basic stuff like fillings and then 50% of things like root canals, bridges, etc.

That would be awesome if that's the case, I guess we'll see where I stack up when it comes time to pay for the repair.

I have Delta Premier which seems to be the top one, I go in Thursday to see how fucked up it is. I'm hoping it doesn't come down to a root canal.

One time a Tootsie Roll pulled a filling out of my tooth. I haven't had one since. As a matter of fact, I loathe them. Fuckin' Tootsie Rolls.

Just got back from the dentist, here's what I get to have done: Two weeks from today I am going to have the decay drilled out and then my tooth built back up so two weeks after that I can get a crown. 900 fucking dollars for the whole work-up, not what I needed.

My dental only pays 50%, which is standard, but that's still money I don't have. It's the week right after I go out to Alpine too so I'll be broke as fuck after that weekend.

Just got back from having step one of two done before getting my crown. They numbed the shit out of my mouth, it feels like half my tongue is missing. I think they drilled away half my tooth, the guy was in there forever and every chance I got a chance to swallow it tasted like burning. Fuck novocaine.
