Original Musicians' / Bands' Links

So, I thought it would be a cool thing to do to have a somewhat centralized location for all the awesome indie bands to post their info here. I know we can't mandate and/or regulate anything like that, but maybe if it was something that was at the top of the thread lists and/or stickied, people would post here and also look here first when interested in seeing what original music projects are being worked on?

Is this an idea that would be useful or supported?

It's cause there's only so much "cool" you can fit into one sub-forum... and all of us regulars here more than make up for that.

Actually... for the last year or so I exclusively check the Musician' Discussion on this board. Haven't ventured into DMBc or nDMBc in a looooong time. This is where it's at.

    Agreed!

Okay, so I'm just going to do it - should I start a new thread, or just use this one and hope it catches on?

PS - I know there's a SoundCloud thread right below this one, but that thread's name limits its functionality, so I thought a new thread was in order.

Trying to set up some sort of central location for musicians to post links to their sites, etc. So one specific thread?

Hey, thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. Feel free to like the facebook page - as much as it sucks to whore out one specific page, that's the one that venue owners look at to see if we can draw people in.

    Woot!

    The Revivalists: http://www.therevivalists.com/

These guys are easily my favorite band right now (aside from DMB). They're going to blow up soon, so check them out in a small venue while you can if they come to your town. Krasno has been guesting with them and they appear to be good friends with Warren Haynes. They're from NoLa, so I got to see them a lot when they first started; and it's awesome to see how popular they are getting.

Honestly, It's hard to recommend songs. The entirety of the Vital Signs and City of Sound albums are awesome; and their new songs that they are touring are INCREDIBLE.

I'll try to give a few suggestions: From the EP check out Soulfight; from Vital check out Catching Fireflies (Probably their most popular), Ride the Earth, and Hurricane Winslow; and from City just listen to the whole album.

The boys have a lot of Pro-shot stuff of YouTube too!

I haven't recorded or written in a long time but here's a link to my old myspace and some youtubes. Mostly rough home recordings and and some live ones as well. All home recordings are just me so I did what I could with what I had.

    Hope you enjoy!

    Thanks!

Wow, I completely forgot about Second In Time hahaha. I didn't even look to see what I had up on Myspace. I recorded that maybe 7 years ago.

I haven't been doing too much. I played maybe 1-2 shows this past year. I used to play shows all the time. But playing solo gets old really fast. If I had a band it would probably keep my interest more but after years and years of solo performances I just got tired of it. Unfortunately this has brought my songwriting to screeching hault. Hard to get too excited about writing when I know the songs don't go anywhere solo. All of that + work and planning a wedding has all added up to a rather low point in my music :-/

I just posted a cover of The Stone today...first cover I've ever done so I was super nervous and got a little shaky with it, but I was happy to get something out there. I'll probably start posting some more stuff soon. Here it is

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Nbusck7uLk

Also, I have a buddy who posts some covers and original stuff, he's very talented, here's his latest original

Good to see some action in this thread, I'll have to check it more often!

Here's my latest tune. Like I've said in the Soundcloud thread, I'm a drummer first, so my voice/guitar aren't as great as I wish they were. But, I try nonetheless. This tune is called "Or So It Seemed." http://soundcloud.com/morgan_kelly_41/or-so-it-seemed

    Awesome stuff going on here!

chemcaj > "My Old Friend" is beautiful! Is it about a specific person or is it more metaphoric?

justinfischl > no need to be concerned, your cover's good. Just keep it up. Your friend's song is cool too, reminds me a bit of Red House Painters.

DLCSBMMK > as always, no needs for apologies from you, your stuff's great. Do you use an acoustic kit for your tracking, or is everything all electric? I ask because it sounds so clean (my kit never sounds that good).

Most of the stuff I've posted has either been demos or demos that overachieved. The drums are done on garageband. I have a pretty solid sample set to work with. And being a drummer, it's not all that hard to really put the time in to try to simulate the feel and sound of an acoustic kit. I could have easily recorded the track, but I was lazy. haha.

Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate them, man.

No More is a nice tune. I liked On the Horizon too, reminded me of Barefoot Truth.

Your cover of Meant to Be is very well done also.

First of all, justinfischl thanks for your kind words, as well as the introduction to Reign of Kindo. I had never heard of them, but they may very well be my new favorite band - I've spent the entire day listening to them on YouTube, and have purchased their newest album from their site.

KAK1154, Cool stuff, I love Ophelia on Ice! I'm curious, what is "Gothic" about it? It may just be my general lack of knowledge, but when I think Gothic, I usually don't think of nice folksy Americana (which is what I thought of your stuff). I liked your facebook page btw.

Keyz, I also liked your page. I have two words for you: Bad. Ass. I looked to see if you had any shows coming up (in particular, if you made it to the central NC area) and didn't see anything. Are you guys still playing?

It was our first show, and you can tell the adrenaline was flowing!
You guys have some cool stuff. I listened to your live tracks, but the ones I really liked were "PFJ" and "Song5." I got really good, chill feelings from both.

Your profile on soundcloud only mentions you, but you obviously have some musicians playing w/ you in the live stuff - are you going the singer/songwriter route for the most part, or does your band participate in songwriting? Are they essentially two different projects, because your live stuff sounds a lot more pop-punk than your other stuff.

alot are songs with no lyrics yet, or they're intros, outros to songs. This is a pretty cool thread, I enjoyed listening to you guys
I dig. Kinda makes me think of Stone Temple Pilots meets DMB ("Moose" is the song that made me think this). Also, some kickass bass happening in "Love at first sight."

Some really great stuff, "Brother Write Me" and "Where You Walking" especially.

Man, way too many good bands up in the NE where I have no opportunity to visit and see live.

If you guys like my stuff, I would be happy for some Reverbnation / Facebook likes! We all know that's (unfortunately) one of the ranking systems venues use - especially for small bands getting started. I'm happy to "swap" likes (and have already liked most everyone in this thread, luckily I actually like everything I've heard, so there was no moral dilemma involved!)

The lyrics/themes are darker, so "gothic" in the sense of this definition, I guess:
"Characterized by a gloomy setting, mysterious, sinister, or violent events." Plenty of the songs are upbeat, so maybe there's a better way to describe it.

We found that folk, bluegrass, americana, etc. weren't necessarily accurate or sufficient. Personally, I've also used, "We're a rock band with bluegrass instrumentation."

Awesome. Thanks a lot for checking us out. We're still functioning! We all go to different colleges, so scheduling sometimes gets tough. Our next show is in Chicago (where we're based out of) at House of Blues Chicago opening up for Badfish: Tribute to Sublime. We've been itching to get on tour for a while, but we never get the chance. Need some promotional help bad...
