Re: DMB#2Sets in 2015

I loved the acoustic sets, but wish they mixed it up a bit more with song selection. Not going to complain and be one of the people on here who bitch no matter what, but I heard some of the same songs at spac as I did Hartford and Mansfield. That's what I think they should try and change. If they are going to play venues that realistically could have 10% of the same fans at them, they shoulda have a lot different sets. That way it keeps the intrigue of going to a show like Hartford. I was debating not going only for the simple fact that there was a good chance I'd hear 6-7 of the same songs. If a venue is 150 miles away you should have at most 3 repeats as the other venue, not 6. I loved the idea of the acoustic set, I felt like they didn't do enough Dave and Tim, which I'm sure everyone would like to see. Why not do 2 Dave and tim songs to open? Idk, I feel like if they do it again, it will be more refined, and more songs will be added to the mix with some practice in doing different versions of songs. I say either way I'll be happy.

The acoustic set didn't sound too "acoustic" to me so it wasn't much of a change other than getting in earlier and seeing more DMB. After a summer of not having an opener perhaps the band and management saw they can make more money without paying for an opener. Would I want them to do the acoustic set again? Probably not. But do two sets ala Phish and you're on to something.

My idea of an acoustic/electric set =

Acoustic - Proudest Monkey/Satellite/If Only (w/ the band trying some different tempos/techniques a la Dave & Tim)
    Electric - Two Step/Trippin Billies/Recently

The Bands idea of an acoustic/electric set =

Acoustic - Two Step/Trippin Billies/Recently (Minus Sax plus flute)
    Electric - Proudest Monkey/Satellite/If Only

The most exciting part of the acoustic sets were when Boyd would stand up and play. The crowds would go crazy because he was pulling off both at the same time.

If they bring it back I would love to see different combinations (duh). Dave and Tim is always a treat but how about a Dave and Boyd LIOG or something of that nature (Wishful thinking). I think of Dave and Roi "Long Black Veil" at the Gorge in '02 and that was absolutely amazing. Obviously, no one can ever match that combination but it would be nice to see different people on different songs. Original remaining 4, Dave & Carter, Dave Tim & Boyd, Etc.\

    Just thinking out loud

I don't think many would complain if this set was the norm and it would be so easy to do.
I'd be down with this! I understand not every show can cover the whole BTCS album. I also understand that everyone has their own opinion in here. But at the end of the day the band will put on the show they put together and give us. Let's just enjoy them while we can. Take it however you want but come next June if I see them 10 times or only once, doesn't matter what kind of set list they put together I'm still gonna have a great time seeing a great band. I will also overpay for beer and spend too much money on merch.

Do people think management will attempt another gimmick like 2Sets in 2015, or will they go back to the regular one-set format without any publicity stunt?

I have a feeling they'll be back to playing standard one set shows, but your post illustrates the biggest problem with the two set format - instead of is viewing it as a special and unique experience, it's now viewed as a publicity stunt. The lack of variation amongst acoustic songs played, as well as a glaring lack of certain songs that would have been perfectly placed in that setting, turned the fanbase against further change. It's really a shame because it could have been so, so good.

I think it will stay two sets but all electric so they don't have the added stress but also dont need an opener

I doubt they will play the same covers repeatedly, and continue to close with Shake Me.
Good or bad, I think 2015 set lists will be noticeably different from 2014.

From an interview with Boyd, Spring 2014:
    Re: Summer 2013

"The whole spirit of last summer was we would just pick a song and play it. One day I came in and said, “True Reflections,” so they said, “Alright, we’ll rehearse it tomorrow and play it tomorrow night.” And that’s how it happened. Carter said, “Let’s cover ‘Kashmir,” and we said, “Okay, we’ll rehearse it tomorrow and we’ll play it tomorrow night.” That was the whole vibe and it was so much fun. It was just whatever people were feeling. That’s fun."

No reason the band can't have this same mindset with a multiple-set format.
