Have you noticed that Q is Jane's (from Breaking Bad) father?

I've never actually done the leg work on this, but if you combined all the actual screen time that's dedicated to those shots in the first act, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was at least a good 6-7 minutes of screen time. Which, when you really think about it, that is quite a lot. I mean there's such a thing in reveling in the ability to have shown this thing off in a theater for the first time ever, then there's what it really was.
That's not an exaggeration. I was watching it and thinking, "Are you really going to show us the entire trip over to the Enterprise?"

It takes about the same amount of time or more from when they start to go inside the cloud to when the probe appears on the bridge. Both of those sequences were interminable.

Though, the new movies are great because Chris Pine is a mega smoke bro.
Well, FWIW, he does look strikingly like a young, pre-ST William Shatner. So is it safe to assume if you had a time machine or temporal distortion you would consider him hot?

I started with The Next Generation, from the beginning. I'm like midway through season two now, and it seems to be getting better. The episodes based around that goofy ass room on the ship that can replicate an alternate time period/reality are so god awful though. "Elementary, my dear Data" was one of the worst episodes of TV I've ever watched.
TNG just gets better as it goes on. Watch the two (I think there were a couple of three parters too) part episodes like Encounter at Farpoint, and especially Best of Both Worlds.

Yes, John DeLancie is actually a very accomplished actor. Tons of TV, sci-fi, and voiceover work. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0209496/

Thanks for your help y'all! I'm slowly on my path to becoming a Trekkie.

Just finished "The Best of Both Worlds" from The Next Generation. God damn that was some good TV.

I recently had a discussion with a buddy of mine on the topic of Star Trek. Maybe I need to give it a shot. I just never could get into it though. I remember watching Next Generation reruns on Fox right before dinner back in the 90's because that was the only thing on 30 minutes before dinner HAHA. Never really liked it. Maybe my perspective has changed though.

Thinking maybe the reason I love the new movies is because I've never really been into the old Star Trek shows or movies. So I really had nothing to compare them to. But I LOVE the new movies. I thought the newest one was incredible.

Love me some lens flare :-) But he better keep that shit out of Star Wars!

I'm not saying it's the best in the series by any means, but it's good.
For some reason, I hold TMP in a special light compared to the other TOS movies. I guess because of the fantastical nature of the concept and everything that went into it (and got cut) before it.

It's still an example of how not to film a Space Epic, though.

I believe the Enterprise tour is it's own scene on the DVD cut. (Also, see this on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8j_HYI-JXU)

Not sure I like any of this....

I don't want Fast & Furious in space and I don't want the new movie to be Shaun of the Trek either.

I read that too, wasn't too sure what to make of it. The new films are decent, but I don't feel like they're very true to the original heart of the series. It's more of a new thing, which may be what they're going for, but to me they don't feel like Star Trek.

I agree. I like the new movies for what they are and have been well done, but they still feel like a tribute and not real trek.

I hope this new one isn't over the top.

I made this thread like 4 years ago and wanted to say thanks to the people who replied.

I went to my first Trek convention last week. Thanks for all the joy.

Awesome to hear! Glad you liked it.

Re-reading my posts I have to say that I was totally wrong. Star Trek Beyond was really good.
