Re: Kevin Smith (Director) Appreciation Thread

I enjoyed Zack & Miri well enough, I'd say, overall probably at least better than Jersey Girl (though which I didn't dislike).

Zack and Miri was okay, I guess, it just seemed really inauthentic for Smith.

I prefer Jersey Girl to it.

Strike Back has probably got to be one of the biggest "inside joke" movies of all time, yes, but I admit I just totally had a ball watching that. and I've found it's still had pretty good replay value over the years.

Seriously. They reference the fucking COMMENTARY from a previous movie.

And yea, it has solid replay value. I've seen it a few dozen times and still like it.

    Which commentary did they reference?

Mallrats commentary is better than Mallrats.

I thought it was the Mallrats commentary.

The reference comes when Holden is showing Jay the internet and they start talking about Ben Affleck and Holden says "But Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms"

If I remember right, they were teasing Affleck about that movie in the Mallrats commentary.

He posted something on Twitter yesterday about how his home getting flooded in 1992 and the money he got from FEMA helped get Clerks made (he got compensated two grand for a car that was damaged due to the flood). A guy busted his balls about using government money in such a way is unethical. Kevin goes, “The Gov’t/FEMA gave me 2k and I put it into a career that has often yielded them as much as 1000x that amount in a tax year. They won.”

If you don't keep up with the podcasts:

Kevin Smith's new Fox TV show
    http://comicbook.com/blog/2013/02/05...w-fox-tv-show/
He described it as a "shortcom", they get about 10 minutes per show along with 4 others who are doing these. Garmy is in it too.

Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie
    http://moviepilot.com/stories/477071...gets-a-trailer
I loved the Clerks animated series and can't wait for this.

Saw Kev and Jay's Groovy Movie last night in Pittsburgh. It was very enjoyable. not A+ material by any means, but a fun enjoyable watch.

Kevin announced during this show (which probably won't be aired for another 3 or 4 weeks) that everything seems to be in line for Clerks 3 to happen. They are finalizing the budgets for the movie and will be approaching their obligatory offer to the Weinstein's shortly. If they are able to start the movie when they want, they plan to begin shooting this summer. He also announced the shoot locations which are going to be Jersey (of course), Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Los Angeles (at least I'm pretty sure he said those last two, can't remember entirely). For Pittsburgh in particular, he said they wanted to start shooting August 9th. All is subject to change depending on whether or not the movie is picked up by the Weinstein's.

Got to ask Kev a question and shake their hands after the show. Fun time.

I'm not sure that's the case necessarily. As a part of their contract for Clerks 2, Harvey and Bob have first dibs to finance any sequel if they would like to. So with that, they need to approach them with the script/budget/schedule/etc. and Kevin hopes and expects that they will turn them down. In that event, Kevin is gonna finance the movie himself and move forward the way he wants to.

Pretty sure they aren't on the best terms after Kevin had to audit the Weinstein's in order to get paid for the money they made on Clerks 2. Don't think the Weinstein's are broken up about it too much, but Kev doesn't really want to work with em again.

I'm sold. And it has Justin Long in it, he rocks.

"Tusk" is about a podcaster who "sets out to interview an eccentric, reclusive old seafarer, only to find himself a plaything in the gruesome plot of a deranged killer," a synopsis said. Smith has previously indicated the podcaster in the movie will be held captive and forced to wear a walrus suit."

Tried listening to a couple of his podcasts on youtube recently and I couldn't stand him. I wanted to like it and him, but I just couldn't. If you ever hear him describe Batman Begins get ready to hear the words "very earnest" about 30 times.

Try Hollywood Babble-On. I have a pretty good feel for your taste, they're big geeks and I love it, I think you'll dig it too.

Jesus Christ chad. 8 links on one page?

I'm about to watch chasing amy for the first time because of the 1st (non link bombed) page of this thread. I've only ever seen jay and silent bob, dogma, and clerks so I'm excited to see this film after seeing all the praise that gets heaped on it.
