ask me to name my favorite 25 albums of all time, i don't think DBT cuts it. TDS threatens, but IMO might fall short as a cohesive record. not to say this band is bad in the studio (they don't have one bad record. period.)---they just have nothing over the top. but over the course of their career they've blown me away with classics very spaced out over time. not a lot of bands i can say that about.
That's a really interesting take. I've never really done any kind of ranking of my favorite all-time albums, but depending on how many, I'd be hard pressed not to include SRO, Decoration Day, and TDS on my list. Those 3 are damn near perfect, IMO.

Oh man I am so jealous you got to catch that show!! Did the bands collaborate/jam at all? Patterson posted a pic of what looked like Craig Finn and a couple other guys from THS on stage with DBT.

Jason and his wife Amanda Shires have put out a cover of Born in the USA.

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...u-s-a-20140702

I actually think it is a pretty unique cover. When I see them in Nashville in October I would love for them to bust this out.

Jason really cannot do any wrong in my mind right now. He is still firing on all cylinders.

^This got me thinking how would I rank the last four albums by DBT and it is actually really difficult. I have strong feelings for GGB but know it isn't the best. I think if I had to it would go like this:

    BTCD
    Go-Go Boots
    English Oceans
    The Big To Do

When I stop and think about it, this band hasn't put out a bad album. The stretch of music they've made is incredible. They generally have critical success in the fact that the albums get high marks, but this has yet to translate to any major public success. However, I do love being able to see them in tiny theaters and small solo shows.

Nice!! Excited about the new Fall tour dates. Definitely will be at the Chicago show at the Riv on 10/24. Think I am going to hit the Nashville show as well, would love to see them at the Ryman. I'm heading to Louisville for the re-scheduled Paul McCartney show on 10/28, DBT in Nashville 2 days later is perfect.

    Here is the release:

    Quote:
    Y'all,

It was great being back out last weekend. Three really fun shows.
LOCKN' was one of our favorite festival shows of the year.

We are thrilled to announce the English Oceans Deluxe Edition CD and Black Ice Vérité DVD and LP coming on Tuesday November 18, 2014.

Some of you might remember, we recorded a live performance of our latest album last February at The Fabulous 40 Watt Club. All hell broke loose, weather wise, but The Show Went On and our friend Jason Thrasher caught it all on film. The end result is a film we're really all proud of, running through the new songs in front of a small crowd at one of our favorite rooms on Earth.
The Black Ice Vérité LP (and bonus CD on the Deluxe Edition) is a collection of 8 songs recorded live, three acoustic performances from The Hay Bale Session we recorded the morning of our Bonnaroo performance, and 5 tracks from this year's HeAthens Homecoming Weekend in Athens GA. A few old songs, a few new songs and a few very different versions. Available on Glorious White Vinyl (with DVD of Black Ice Vérité included).

The English Oceans Deluxe Edition CD/DVD includes the album, our most acclaimed work in years, along with the DVD of Black Ice Vérité and a CD of the Black Ice Vérité Bonus Tracks.
damn it. I didn't see an option for just the bonus live cd and dvd, so I ordered the deluxe edition CD. Really though, it's only $17 for it, so it is almost like paying for the 8 track live cd and dvd and getting a free copy of the original CD

The CD bundle nets you the English Oceans CD, the 8-track live CD, and the DVD. The LP bundle gets you the 8-track live album on vinyl, the DVD, and a digital download of both English Oceans and the live album.

So if you have a turntable, the LP bundle is definitely the way to go. But if not, then like you said you're getting the live disc, DVD, an extra copy of the album for $17, still a pretty great deal.

I don't have a turntable or care about vinyl. The way I see it is I'm paying $17 for a DVD, which is about normal, and getting the 2 cds free. I'm pretty surprised at the prices, honestly.

They use Music Today just like DMB does, so the shipping is naturally outrageous. I pre-ordered the English Oceans vinyl from Amazon instead of the DBT store when it came out just for that reason. I love the little extras they throw in, but the shipping that MT charges is ridiculous, you end up paying over $40 for a $28 order.

For anyone with Spotify, there is a really good 'Spotify Sessions' 'Live at Bonnaroo' from DBT up now. Some good versions of tunes from English Oceans as well as a great 'Box of Spiders.'

As for the shipping, I ordered more stuff and honestly didn't even notice the shipping. When it comes to DBT I just say "take all the money"

Handful of solo dates for both Patterson and Cooley announced for December. Just grabbed a pair of front and center seats for Patterson's show at SPACE on Dec 19th, that should be incredible.

Anyone gonna be at the Chicago show on Friday night? Venue got moved from the Riv to the Vic. They usually always play the Vic, I was surprised when it was originally announced at the Riv only because it's like 2x the size of the Vic, and the Vic wasn't sold out last year when they played on Halloween. Guessing they didn't sell enough tix for the Riv and moved it.

I'll also be at the show in Nashville next Thursday the 30th at the Ryman Auditorium.

i was at saturday's show. it was great, as i expected it would be. i'm so glad i started seeing these guys this year, they are definitely becoming one of my favorite live bands. they certainly are one of the most consistent.

alex, your guess about the ticket sales is right, if saturday's show was an indication. the electric factory in philly is two floors, but they only had the first floor open for us.

Cooley is playing Austin, but I can't get out there that weekend. For a band that has earned a reputation for their live performances, I feel like a shitty fan for never having seen them.

Awesome, gonna have to check the setlist from Saturday.

Sad to see they're not selling a ton of tix for some of these shows. Just a couple years ago they did 2 nights at The Vic in Chicago and both shows were packed.

Jason Isbell is really the toast of Nashville right now - he's got THREE sold out shows at the Ryman this week, pretty impressive. DBT are gonna be there a week later...Jason will probably be somewhere else but man I'd love to see him come jam....

Damn, Joe I just looked at your setlist from Philly the other night. Not very long (only 21 songs) but damn that is a killer setlist, you got some gems.

I am going to see Jason on Friday in Nashville and could not be more excited. I remember seeing him play RIBCO in Rock Island to maybe a 100 while in college. Part of me feels like a proud parent/on-looker as Jason's career has just sky rocketed as we all knew it would. DBT is still one of my absolute favorites, but Jason is carving himself out a nice little place as one of the best signer songwriters out today. Scary to think him, Cooley, and Patterson were all cranking out amazing songs at the same time in the same band.

Was just flipping through the Fall tour setlists on setlist.fm just to see what's been in rotation, and saw that just about all the shows on the Fall Tour have been way shorter - like 19-21 songs when usually it's like 27+, sometimes even over 30. Wonder why the shorter shows??

KILLER show in Chicago last night! Ended up in the 2nd row on the floor, dead center. 2 1/2 hour set of absolutely blistering rock and roll. Band hit the stage at 9:15, off at about 11:40. Killer setlist, got some stuff I rarely hear like 'The Southern Thing', 'The Living Bubba', and 'Feb 14.' And I'm pretty sure I completely lost it through all of 'A Ghost to Most.'

Got some really great pictures too, attached a few here.

    Setlist:
    (Onstage 9:15 PM)

    Lookout Mountain
    Primer Coat
    The Living Bubba
    Till He's Dead or Rises
    Pauline Hawkins
    Marry Me
    The Southern Thing
    Made Up English Oceans
    The Righteous Path
    Sounds Better In The Song
    Heathens
    First Air of Autumn
    Feb 14
    Natural Light
Box of Spiders (w/Patterson spoken intro)
    A Ghost to Most
    Hell No, I Ain't Happy
    ----------------------------------------
    Shit Shots Count
    Sink Hole
    Get Downtown
    Ronnie and Neil
    Zip City
    Grand Canyon

    (Offstage - 11:40 PM)
