I didn't even notice Apocalypse until you mentioned him. That Olivia Munn tho...

I'll say it again though -- I fucking love Oscar Isaac.
I stand by this statement, only now I'm less hopeful that we're going to see the issue fixed in post-production since they're doing EW photoshoots.

All that really matters is Isaac's performance and the writing though. I'm confident in both.

For what it's worth, I kind of feel like EW doesn't necessarily have the greatest history of showing early looks at big comic movie characters looking their best, for whatever reason. Just something about their photography, doesn't necessarily seal it that he'll be looking that iffy.

I don't really know much about the actual character of Apocalypse, mutant powers-wise. If he's supposed to be sort of like all encompassing, like a laundry list of awesome abilities, as in what they tried to make Deadpool in the XMen: Origins movie. I mean I'm thinking at the very least he kind of shares the regenerative properties of Wolverine, if he's been alive since the days the pyramids were built, as shown in the DOFP credits sequence.

Even though he looks a little off, I expect Apocalypse to be great. X-men have some of the best villains in comics.

Apocalypse is by far the most powerful mutant. He's pretty epic. There's a reason he's the first mutant and still alive and thriving.

Agreed, but I give the hat to Spider-Man's villains. Venom, Green Goblin, Venom, Carnage, Hobgoblin, Punisher, Shocker, Morbius, Kraven, etc.

That's a good way to sum it up. If you want specifics Junior, wikipedia describes him this way:

Apocalypse is an ancient mutant born with a variety of superhuman abilities who further augmented himself after merging with Celestial technology. The character has total control over the molecules of his body, enabling him to alter his form as it suits him, such as allowing his body to become extremely malleable and flexible or change its size, enhance his physical abilities, transform his limbs into weapons, wings, or jets, regenerate from fatal injuries, adapt his body to apparently any disease or hostile environment, and give himself virtually any physical superhuman power. The character is also able to project and absorb energy, and has displayed telepathy and telekinesis. Apocalypse is also capable of technopathy, able to directly interface with the various technologies he has at his disposal. Thanks to the aid of his mutant abilities, special "regeneration" chambers, and changing bodies, Apocalypse has made himself effectively immortal.

Aside from his superhuman powers, Apocalypse is extraordinarily intelligent, a scientific genius with knowledge in various areas of science and technology including physics, engineering, genetics, and biology, all of which are more advanced than conventional science. Apocalypse has knowledge of Celestial technology that he uses for his own applications, such as altering mutants or humans. Apocalypse is also a skilled demagogue and a master strategist.

Apocalypse's blood can heal other mutants, but is fatal for humans. Apocalypse's blood can also restore his de-powered mutant descendants.

In the Marvel universe, Spider-Man takes the cake. I still prefer Batman's Rogues Gallery above all else though.

Although I agree with the report that C-Tate's people did this as a means of publicly negotiating in order to secure him a better deal.

Not a chica... That's En Sabah Nur, aka Apocalypse, building the Great Pyramid with his mind.

He's the main antagonist for the upcoming X-Men movie (hence this thread).

Looks pretty good. I've always enjoyed X-Men moreso than any other Marvel property so I'll definitely check it out.

Man, looks like NYC takes a beating again. Wonder how the Man of Steel naysayers will justify all that death/grief/hunger/sorrow vis a vis the Superman/Zod battle?

I have to say, though, the acting looks to be phenomenal. Fassbender is the man, and I think seeing McAvoy transform from the 70's Prof. X to the one we all know and love will be cool.

I'm not super familiar with Apocalypse either... my impression is that he's a "more in theory than in practice" kind of villain, in that he has a reputation as being one of the great X-Men villains but there aren't actually very many great comics with him as the villain (there's definitely one -- Age of Apocalypse-- but that may be it?).

I think the issue might be that his super power is basically "every super power ever", so it's difficult to actually turn that into a functioning storyline, unless it's a sort of a Major Event/Potential End of the Whole Universe mega-story. He's just too powerful. It'll be interesting to see how they resolve that in the film.

I haven't actually read a lot of Apocalypse comics though (my X-Men reading has been basically confined to the Whedon run and the magnificent Morrison omnibus), so I'd be glad to take some recommendations.

Easy: it'll be in a much better movie, problem solved

well I was massively looking forward to this thing from the first moment I heard about it, but that being said, and for reasons I can't even really put my finger on, something just felt lacking for me with this trailer. And yea I know it's only the first one (and looks like it's maybe about a 60/40 split as far as what was already done in the comic-con trailer, and new stuff), but still. It occurs to me, I guess one of the bigger suspensions of disbelief we'll have to have is the fact that Mystique, Beast and Havoc (among even more) are supposed to be about 20 years older than in First Class. I mean, that took place around 1963 and this is 1983, yea... these folks ain't a couple decades older now

Now this isn't directly related to the movie, but I wondered, and obviously this can't happen in the movies because different characters are split up between studios, but back in any of the original Marvel comics, did Apocalypse and Thanos ever appear in the same story? just cause, they both seem like they're this REALLY overpowering, has every ability under the sun, villainous character that on paper at least seem like any of the heroes could possibly match up against.

That trailer was great. I was mid-story when it came on and I just stopped. My buddy and his wife just kinda looked me like I was crazy. Totally worth it.
