They can't be that much smarter if they're going after Melo, which it sounds like they are. My anti-Melo bias aside, that's just a god awful fit. There are already questions about how CP3 and Harden will co-exist... toss in the biggest ball-stopper in the league and then what? Disaster.

Hopefully the Knicks want Jason Kidd as their next POBO.

so the cp3 trade was made possible by him merely opting into a final year of his existing contract, not by him signing an extension?

Yes. That allowed the Clippers to trade him and get something in return.

Hey did you ever find that guy I was asking about before?

If he signs the extension he can't be traded for 60 days (I think) and this entire deal hinged on the Rockets acquiring non-guaranteed contracts to trade to LAC to make the deal work. Starting July 1, non-guaranteed deals don't have value in a trade so the trade wouldn't have been possible.

    So you never found him?

So weird that you can't remember where you heard those things. Either way, I think Morey's current success is a case of throwing enough shit at the wall that some is bound to stick, but getting this trade to work has been pretty impressive. He's acquired 4 non-guaranteed contracts today to make the trade possible. I mean it's not hard to send cash and 2nd round picks to teams for a guy they are going to cut, but still, just knowing the rulebook like that and knowing you have 3 days or else the trade doesn't happen... commendable.

Rockets fans I know are wondering the same thing everyone else is - how is it going to work. There is precedent for 2 point guards leading a team (think early 80s Lakers), but Pat Beverly was an important part of the team.

Hot take, but if Blake stays healthy and I. La the Clippers upgraded their team. All the guys they got back are solid role players, which "A has never had.

The more I thought about it, I don't think it is a bad fit just an unique one. You can stagger rotations to make them both happy, and they both can be money as spot up guys.

it's almost impossible for blake to stay healthly, and he almost certainly won't be in LA, and there's zero chance both are going to happen concurrently

I think Blake ends up staying in LA, especially with the recent news that he might be out until December.

I believe I read yesterday that they said they still feel like they can re-sign him.

Frank Ntilikina's coach from France was supposed to coach the Mavs summer league team. Today the Mavs announced he's not. Keep believing they wanted Dennis Smith Jr. all along though.

Cuban has been pretty vocal about his love for Smith for awhile. I think you're reading into things a bit much. They probably thought he was going to go sooner and Frank was their backup plan.

So you're saying the Mavs ended up not taking a guy that already had been drafted and instead took a guy they could've easily liked more but didn't think would be available when it was their turn to draft?

    Mindblowing.

The Mavs were linked to Ntilikina more than the Knicks. Cuban flew to Italy to meet him. Like two days before the draft there was a report that Ntilikina was the Mavs guy and then shortly thereafter they hired his head coach to be their summer league coach. You think they just hired the guy for shits, then said ehhh nevermind when they didn't get Frank?

It's very possible, if not likely, that the Mavs believed Smith would be gone before they picked. Maybe they did like him more but this doesn't prove that.

I'm just saying there was a whole lot more linking the Mavs to Ntilikina than Smith.

Also, yes, thank god the Knicks didn't take Monk... the undersized 2 who can't defend, rebound or pass. Those types usually pan out nicely in a league full of physical guards.

There are reports that Cuban threatened to fire anyone who leaked their pick so I'm pretty sure they wanted, at the latest, by the time the draft started.
