Re: Lennon vs. McCartney

I always preferred lennons deeper lyrics to pauls cheesy pop school kid lyrics. Imagine is the best song solo by any of them. Harrisons All things must pass is the best solo album out of all of them.

Of them all give me john lennon every day

Lennon. And I'd put Harrison over McCartney too.

The Macca remains one of the most complete musicians in the history of popular music...at least modern popular music.

Not only a excellent writer, but also a stellar singer, incredible bassist, very good guitarist, and nice pianist.

I'd be happy to be decent at any one of these things...

Amazing song true, but Paul McCartney was a huge part of that sound. He was basically producing the Beatles along with George Martin. He pushed them in that avante garde art music direction. So he should get some credit even if John wrote the meat of that song.

I could never choose definitively. I love Paul's songs, his art vibe and songs where he just sings his heart out, but like DMB, sometimes he went a little too grandiose and sugary to the songs detriment. "The Long.. and.. Wind..ing Song."

John Lennon sort of wears it on his sleeve which I like when Dave does. And obviously writes just as amazing songs.

I think I like DMB partially because they remind of the Beatles. So many styles. Angry, happy, sad, art, epic, short

    "The Long.. and.. Wind..ing Post."

-Writing style comparisons to DMB (hits and misses)

Think first Shotgun. John leaves that alone. Paul makes it into what it is today, albeit probably with much better cohesive lyrics and melody. But still the first version, true to core of the message of the song is the best IMO. Like John Lennon Plastic Ono Band style. let people feel the emotion organically.

Then again Paul sometimes hits a homerun with those choices to go epic.
DMB as well. Penny Lane succesful, Bartender successful.

To sum it up McCartney should produce DMB. I would say Brian Wilson who can also do epic/many styles, but they probably couldn't handle his perfectionism.

They would not let Dave write fluff, especially Wilson. They would also be able to finish songs like Sugar Will, Shotgun, Black Jack, etc. that they obviously need help with. I bet McCartney would have ideas for Celebrate. And he could play the piano parts to all of the songs.

    Someone make all that happen.

Today I choose John. LOVE Norwegian Wood.
